Hello, My name is Candace and I am 23. I had my first seizure at the age of 20, right out of the blue and the doctors don't know why! I have had two grand mal seizures and one mild one that affected my face only. This is very scary and they seem so violent. I am always on edge and always scared. I have been on Dilantin for almost four years and as long as I take my medication faithfully I am seizure free.

I have heard a lot of bad things about being on dilantin and getting pregnate. Anyone with any experience? I am so scared to come off my medication.

Any suggestion would be great!

I never new how many people have epilepsy.

Candace,
Hi and welcome to HW.
IMO you shouldn't have to worry about the dilantin. I've been on it (275mg/day) since 1979 (age 21) and I'm OK however I am a male and I don't know how it will affect pregnancy(but I've heard it's OK if in low doseages and closely monitored)

Been on meds ever since.

275mg-dilantin/day
120mg-pheonobarb/day
3,000mg-Mesasol/day
20mg-Celexa/day

Thank you Everyone for replying! It make me feel better to know I am not alone! I think that is the scariest part.
