I don't think your pain is from diabetes. I hope it isn't fibromyalga! I have that and it stinks!. Let us know how your tests turn out. We are all pulling for you.

Welcome to the Diabetes Forum. We are always glad to make new friends here. We don't always agree on the ways to handle our condition but most of us are real good at offering advice (whether we are right or not)!
Read back in the posts and you will learn how others are handling their diabetes, then let us know if you have any concerns and we will try to help.

Hi. I'm fairly new to the diabetes forum. Been posting on the Migraine forum since May. I found out I have Type 2 Diabetes 8/4. Since then I was having a lot of trouble with Low Blood Sugar symptoms while my numbers were in the 90's. It was because my sugars had been high for so long.
My own doctor is out of town till 9/1, but I had to see someone. A different doctor changed my medicine from Glyburide to Metformin on 8/16. But now I'm having nausea and very little appetite. I'm just not able to eat all of the food on the diet my doctor gave me. I'm trying to eat a little food from each exchange and I've only had three episodes of low blood sugar. I am eating a little bit between meals as Jeannie suggested on my previous post, (Sorry, I couldn't find it. lol) and checking my blood sugar before the snack. I've lost a couple of pounds; but that's actually pretty good. Do you think the nausea and appetite will get better after I get used to the new medicine?
My other questions: I was told I should wear a Medic alert bracelet. Is it OK to wear one that says Diabetic, or should I have one that says Type 2 Diabetes? Does it make a difference in an emergency? Especially in a diabetic emergency?
Thanks!
~~Pegasis
For a medical alert bracelet just Diabetes is fine. I got mine on eBay and had to get one that's gold because I have metal allergies. You should be able to find one there for a very reasonable price. Hope this helps.

I'll have to get a hold of that book at the library and do a quick read... Everybody keeps saying how much it helped them...

I ve been on advandamet and will write more after the weekend.. I've got to go pack and leave in about an hour and didn't want to overlook you. I'll write more on Monday, ok...
Hang in there.. Oh, and are you on insulin? My sugars stayed high until I started my Lantus... Maybe that's what you need....Also, check into your local YMCA for membership costs just for you... Swimming is easy on joints and great for high blood pressure. You can even start walking in the water for easy exercise.
Chat atcha later!

Hi there Jeannie143,
Thanks so much for your reply, looking forward to hearing from you. I just was able to put my good ol dial up connection together since our power is still out from hurricane Katrina, when I saw your post. I am complaining right now because it is hot and humid here in Miami but I have to count my blessings considering where Katrina is going now as a cat 5.
I am not on insulin and do exercise at home on my tread mill. My endo want's to check the results in two months. In the meantime, he called me to come earlier, found calcium in my urin. Have no idea what will be next but I am trying to learn as much as I can to live and deal with it. Take care of your self and stay save on your travels.
God bless

Calcium in the urine... been there. Done that... Calcium oxalate kidney stones for me (Not fun!)... He wants to check your parathyroid, probably. Have you had any success with following your diabetic diet and your medication bringing your blood sugar down? I'm in my 50's and was diagnosed about 15 years ago, but I have probably had diabetes for about 30 years. I have already had some eye changes and have mild neurapathy in my feet. I didn't really get serious about my diabetes until I started on insulin last spring. Have to admit it takes time to adjust to the new and better way of living.
I've written some more to you in my welcome post to the newer members. I'm glad to make a new friend, although I wish it were under better circumstances.
