Hello room it's me again to vent some anger!!!!!!! diagnosed with non epileptic seizure disorder in 2004. My family was involved in a car wreck on April 30 by getting rear ended by a woman who wasn't paying attention. I was taken to my local er and had a major seizure in the er. The er doctor just stood back an looked at me while i was seizing only the RN helped hold my head and the first thing out of his mouth was who are you going to sue. Not if you are hurt or can i help you. I got so mad i had my son take me to the other hospital where they put me in a whiplash collar and gave me medicines for everything. I have been going back and forth between my Internal medicine doctor and Emergency rooms for help but they only thing he has told me was i would be sore for a couple of days and more medicine to take. I reached out for help today and he told me that i was making more out of the situation than it seemed. I left a insurance document for the seizure disorder with his secertary and for some reasom he said that i could go to work and i wasn't disabled. He lost a good paying patient with the words he spoke today. I already have really bad headaches from the seizure disorder but now they have been getting worser since the accident. I have been so mad these past few hours that everyone is telling me that's it's just a matter of time before i have a seizure. Room please pray for me because i really need it. Of all the money and patience i spent with this doctor this is how he does me!!!!!!!! it just shows how you think you really know someone and then they show their royal rump for all to see. Anyone ever been in this kind of situation? Please write me back and let me know. Guess what I have the LORD on my side and when one door closes another will open. Always remember that and you won't go wrong!!!!!!!!!
Oh my goodness! That is unbelievable! I read your post and got mad myself. You're absolutely right in saying that The Lord is with you and He'll look after you. Never doubt that.
I too have a non epileptic seizure disorder. I had a stroke in 2002 ( I was 28), complications due to my lupus. the stroke left me with simple partial seizures. So I'm not convulsing or blacking out. I have really intense auras of deja vu and weird smells.

Thanks Ginny, i just had to vent so look over me! Hey I'll be alright when i can one day pass him in the hallway and look him in the eyes and ask do you remember what you told me that nothing was wrong me , it was all in my head???????? My other neuro doctor said that my condition would never improve and just had to take life one day at a time with GOD's help and taking Topermax, Lexapro and he's suppose to start me on something else this week. I WILL SURVIVE!!!!!!!!!!
Firstly, let me say, it is just outrageous that ANYONE would have the nerve and arrogance to say "who are you going to sue" to someone who has come to the emergency room looking for HELP. That is a bunch of baloney! An attitude like that is what makes patients want to slap a doctor in the face ( I'm too nice to say more than that).
That attitude isn't even about being unkind... it's the fact that the emergency doc decided to pass judgement on you and then give you what he thought you deserved- he decided the joke was on YOU! Humiliation has always been a technique used over the years to try to break people's spirits. Sounds like it was tried on you too.
Secondly, you feel bitterness and anger- and rightly so. It hurts to feel so betrayed when you thought your own doctor was there for you and now you are up in the air. But, you can also make the situation work for you too. Don't misunderstand me. The very same doctor that said you weren't disabled and could go to work may not be aware of the exact situation that you are feeling and going through. Most of the time, it is the communication and bond with your doctor that makes things happen FOR you. Most doctors that have an ounce of empathy will respond if approached in the right way- after all, they are people too. Before you give up on your doctor, you might want to try again... tell him what YOU are going through....his eyes might open...
Thirdly, you ARE a survivor, bigmomma. Don'tEVER give up... (((HUGS)))
Hey Big, I am so sorry you were mistreated this way. Obviously that doc is still in need or "practice" his medical knowledge.....
It is just awful. How are you doing? Are you ok from the accident? Sorry your seizures are also not being taken seriously. keep fighting and looking for answers.
I have been having seizures since 1994, and after going through several diagnoses have been told that I have non-epileptic seizures. The good news is that there is much more known about them than now than ten years ago. It is still hard to find someone who knows much about them, though. BigMomma, hang in there and just keep pushing for what you need. I have found that it simplifies things if I have a psychiatrist who knows about non-epileptic seizures and can deal with the rest of the medical community, and the goverment agencies, for you. Many people don't understand these kinds of seizures and since they are often psychological in origin, they pay no attention to whatever I say, since by definition I have a screw loose.
A good psychiatrist is hard to find. I moved to where I am now about 4 years ago, and am just now hopeful of finding one who knows about non-epileptic seizures. Good luck!
