Hi everybody,i finished my last chemo last wed,and i still have numbness in my fingers and toes.The doctor said it could be permanent we will have to wait and see.Have any of you got permanent nerve damage from chemo? Tammy
Yes, I have some numbness in my toes, and I finished chemo nearly 2 years ago. It"s an annoyance, that's about all. I'm sending prayers that yours is temporary.

You will have the numbness in your fingers and toes for sometime but you should see some improvement. Unfortunately, nothing will happen in the next few weeks or perhaps even months. Just be patient and careful. I did get the feeling back after about 6 mos. My onco was very, very careful about the neuropathy. She would stop the taxol if the numbness was to severe as she does now w/ the navelbine.

It has been almost a year since I had my last chemo. I still get the numbness and the pain in my fingers and toes but am noticing that the space between times when it acts up is getting longer. So I hope the end of that will be soon. I hope you will soon see it letting up. My best to you.

I'm almost 3 years out from treatment and have had the numbness. It kind of feels like Elmers glue dried on your finger tips. When my hair finally got long enough to curl, I burned my finger tip on the curling iron and didn't discover the blister for a couple of hours later - I mean I didn't feel it AT ALL. In that my middle name is Grace :) this had me pretty worried. My onc tested me for carpal tunnel which was negative. Then my B12 levels were checked - I guess low B12 can also cause the numbness. Then he prescribed Neurontin. I carried it around for about a month because the long list of side effects scared me. Finally, I started taking them and the change was so huge that I was in tears for about a week because I could feel things again. As a matter of fact I didn't realize that my toes had been numb until I could feel them again! This is something that you may want to ask your onc about.

I have some numbness and tingling in my fingers and toes too. I do hope it goes away but it isn't too bad for me.
Yesterday I felt like the palms of my hands and soles of my feet were itching terribly. I had a neupogen shot the day before...could this mean anything? I took benadryl and it finally went away.

Beth the itching could be a reaction to the shot.I had the same shots and they told me if i have itching or a rash to contact them right away.You might want to let them know. Tammy
Cathy do you have any side effects with the neurontin.The doctor said if the numbness doesnt go away he will put me on neurontin. Tammy
Nope, not really. It is the best thing that happened to me since treatment ended.
