I was told I have OA in my spine. But then another dr told me that to have arthritis in the spine this young (29) is a sign of something more serious. Has anyone heard this before?
I have OA in my spine (spondylosis). I was dx'd with it at 29 also. I have seen two doctors about it and they both told me that it could be caused by a number of things (aging is the top reason, injury right behind it). Mine was brought on by my many years in gymnastics as a teenager. I have never been told that it is a sign of somthing more serious. Hope this helps a little.

Well, I may not be as young as you chickadees (I'm 44), but I'm way too old to have this OA in my spine, too :) I have read it is directly related to smoking, which I was guilty of in a social way, so no more cigs with my beer at the bar (not that I do that much anyway lol). Hang in there, girl. If they don't find anything else, don't worry about it. Worry about today and let tomorrow take care of itself. We have enough aches as it is! Hugs - Laura

Hi there Kris,
there are times where women in particular become osteopenic (softening of the bone sin the spine) & therefor get OA of the spine at an early age.
this can be from diet, steroids, injury, and vitamin/mineral deficiency.
are you with a rheumatologist?
it's not too late to start to take a calcium supplement with vitamin D and a Rx for something like actonel for OA of the spine.
i do think you should have some serious work ups and MRIs and tests just to make sure nthing else is causing this.
a rheumatologist would be your best bet....and even a second and third opinion too!
take it easy & don't stress too much.
it's better just to make sure you get all bases covered...peace of mind is important.
the best to you!
