off topic: career choices

I know this is off topic, but I have a decision to make and wonder what the rest of you think. I have recently decided to apply to be licensed for in home daycare. I just finished rads yesterday. Everytime I tell anyone of this decision they want to know if Im "well enough"? Well, apparently I thought so, but my husbands family seems to think Im nuts. With the medical bills coming in, and the economy being what it is I have to return to some kind of work. I thought this would be the best decision since I already have a two yr. old of my own.
Im actually kind of offended at thier questions as I have asked noone for help. I have maintained my home , large yard, bills, dinner, kids, etc. without help up to this point. The problem is will parents of the children feel this way, and do I tell them? Im still wearing a wig so it may become obvious at some point, and Im a pretty open-honest person.
I'am a little more fatigued at times, but never nap. I'm up at 5:30 and running. I think I've done great. Would you be afraid to leave your kids knowing I'am recovering survivior of breast cancer? Am I taking on to much to soon?Your opinions greatly appreciated.

Wow Michelle!! Kudos to you! The only thing I think I would worry about (as a prospective parent), is how many kids to you plan on taking in? However, I think you should go for it... but maybe start off with only a few kids first?? congratulations on being done - and good luck!!

Good for you! Some mom out there really needs your help and you need hers, so go for it. As Chantry says, though, go slowly. Although you are through treatment, your resistance to infection may be low. As a parent, my worry would be that my child would get you sick. Why don't you try one child at first and then consider adding more if all goes well.

Good luck to you and good for you.

Go for it, girl. You have to do what your heart says is right. This sounds like your heart is in it. And, yes, if I were the mother of a young child I would not hesitate to leave her/him with someone who is recovering from cancer. After all, you don't catch cancer. Best wishes, Lauri

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

I agree with the others, especially the part about beginning slow. Each state is different, but I am wondering if you have to be licensed if you just have a few kids at first to see how it goes and how you feel. Another idea is to try working with a child care place for awhile or try to find a church looking for a child care during weekly services. Good luck, MK

Do whatever YOU want to do and never mind anyone else.  When they've walked in your shoes then they may possibly have an opinion.  Oh, I just can't stand it when people say things to us that are negative about recovering from BC.  This journey changes our lives forever.  If only others knew or could possibly even imagine just how much.  Sending you supportive hugs.  Luci

Absolutely do what YOU want to do.  I am an example.  I decided I wanted to become a Radiation Therapist, so I went back to school to start the ball rolling.  I even quit my job so I can do temp work to allow me flexibility for school.  Once I'm accepted into the program, I will need to quit work and go to school full time for 3 years.  That's quite a commitment and decision, but my DH is supportive of it.  GO FOR IT!!!  I am!

Wow!  Double Kudos to you, lady!  Just one thing.  Can you come to Maine and do it?  LOL

I wouldn't tell anyone if you don't want to.  Just because you have a wig, I had a wig and no one really noticed, I just went on like before.

about the concerned others, people just don't think about their comments and how they could be taken.  It's a shame.  Just don't let them get you down!  You give that love to those kids and let those moms work for their families!  I really admire you!
