Hi Everyone!
I just got the call from the oncologist's office and we got GREAT news. The genetic test called Oncotype DX results show I have a very low chance of recurrence! So with that news they are moving forward with radiation and hormonal treatment (Tamoxifen). But NO chemo!!! I will have my planning session for radiation on the 14th.
I am so thrilled and wanted to share it with all my new friends right away!
Thank you all for the welcome and becoming part of each day. It's so nice to know that whenever I have questions, apprehensions or just need someone to listen that I have all of you!
I even made a referral to my surgeon's nurse who told me today on the phone that she has 2 recently diagnosed friends. She said she will tell them about this site and is happy to know this exists for us.

Wow, that is awesome news! I wish they had that test when I was diagnosed...but I probably would have needed chemo anyway with my 2.5 cm tumor...
Celebrate your good news with ice cream or retail therapy. It works for us!

That's great news. I don't know if I have said hello or not. I can't seem to get caught up on the board. Since vacation DH and I have both been sick. So, Welcome and congratulations on your great news. Having a plan in place makes things so much better. We will be here for you each step of the way so keep us up to date.

You have really gotten great news! Many people respond well to radiation and lumpectomy. My aunt was diagnosed several years before I was and that was what she had for treatment. She has never had any sign of breast cancer since. I wish the test had been available for me, too.
Thanks for sharing our address with others. I have invited many people to come here, too and it is surprising that some just don't have any interest. It has become such a part of my life to check the board each day several times. I had to laugh recently, tho. I have taken a lot of heat from family for spending so much time on the computer. My husband bought an old sailboat to restore and later learned it is sort of a classic and there is a message board like this for people restoring these particular boats, so he goes to the computer first thing each morning to see what is going on. My daughter, who was also diagnosed with breast cancer and had no interest in this board, loves horses and owns eight. She recently found a message board where they discuss horses, their care and ailments, as well as breeds and breeding, etc. So both of the people who teased me most are now hooked with computer cyber friends, too. LOL.

I'm seeing the oncology team of Dr's Uhl and Lee at the Cleveland Clinic in Wooster. I had nothing against Dr. Stallings I just had some prior wonderful experience with the CC when my dad was sick years ago. And my sister goes there for her Lupus.
They have been great so far and I feel very confident in their care. It was because of their being on the cutting edge of medical advances that I was able to have this test. There is really very little out there about it, I'm not sure many oncologists are using it yet.
I have to share my experience with my DD tonight with all of you. She has been very anxious about whether or not I was going to be getting chemo. I had her prepared for it in case and she had gotten to the point where she was able to think of positives. For example the other night while I was taking a bath she came in to "keep me company". While I was shaving my legs she said "hey Mom, if you have to get chemo you won't have to shave your legs!" And we came up with a slew of positives; no tweezing eyebrows, no coloring my grey hair, no shaving underarms etc. So tonight she says out of the blue "do you know yet what treatment you're going to have yet Mom?" We hadn't told her yet we were waiting to do it at the dinner table. And my DH and I just looked at each other. We said dinner will be ready in a couple minutes we'll tell you then. But she couldn't wait. So we told her and she smiled so big and hugged me over and over. I don't remember the last time she hugged and kissed me so much!!! The funny thing was we didn't know when we were going to be getting the results back and hadn't told her when to expect them. It's like she sensed it!
Today has been such a joy! Thank you all for sharing it with me!!! I'll still be on here just as much as I will need you all for advice for the rads.

You were on the right track of thinking positive - even with was positive about chemo. Welcome to the board and congratulations on not having to go through chemo. Rads are doable, just make sure you take good care of your skin from the moment you start rads, because if you start to burn, like I did, the creams don't do as much good.
We look forward to the new ones you have steered this way. If we can help anyone with this disease, we are always willing. Like Mary Kay, I too have given the address to some friends, but either they haven't had time or just don't feel they need this type of support at this time.

Actually, when I had rads they zapped an area under my left arm where it totally must have wiped out all of the hair follicles. I only need to shave a little area in that armpit. Tee Hee
You are going to do just great with radiation. It sounds like you have a wonderful support team ready to help you thru it........and of course WE are here to help too in any way that we can. If you need someone to go with you your first trip to rads, let me know and I will try and be there for you. The first time is the scarest. After that, you will be a pro!

Mia....no such luck here...I did shave my darn legs throughout chemo. I had a little under the arms, but the darn leg hair never stopped!
