Pets and Depression

I would like to know how many of you find that your pets are sooooo understanding when you are depressed???

My dogs have seemed to sit a little closer, or lay their head on my lap and look up with understanding, or even lay next to me while I was in pain and recuperating.

I just need to say that I appreciate the personality of pets when I feel down.

I would enjoy hearing your pet stories if you have a minute to share.

Hi Rosie
My pets seem to know when I'm having a bad day. I have two cats and one-Mercury will sit on my lap, shoulders or knee and try to lick me when I'm down. She never does this when I'm feeling better! The other cat -Che never seems to notice-but he is male!
It can really help that the pets give unconditional love and you don't have to explain anything to them.

My beagle, Abby, knows when I need her. She will come over and put her chin on my hand and rub her face into my chest. When I am feeling sad I will lay her by me and just hold her and I feel so much better. She is such a sweetie!!!

When I was going through a bad time my brown tabby cat helped me forget things for a while.  She would curl up on my lap, looking so relaxed, it made me feel a bit better.  She always has a lot to say and is funny to watch sometimes.   I really like animals, especially during the last few years.  They're one of the few things that make me happy.

When I'm having a bad day, my dog Lucy brings me all of her toys and then falls asleep on top of me and won't move.

Welcome Bodysong!! . . . thank youfor sharing about your cat. I bet she purrrrrrs away. One of my dogs trys to purr !! Its kindof funny . . . it comes out like he's holding his breath from coming out too fast.

I don't know what I would do without my dog Marli. She has the ability to make me feel better even when I feel like I am in the pit of doom. She si a Jack Russel Terrier and just the sweetest dog. I know that she knows how I am feeling.

 
We can respond to irritation with a smile instead of scowl, or by giving warm praise instead of icy indifference. By our being understanding instead of abrupt, others, in turn, may decide to hold on a little longer rather than to give way. Love, patience, and meekness can be just as contagious as rudeness and crudeness.

my cat does that to me, i swear she has a sixth sense because she knows when i'm down. she will jump on my lap or lick me, when she generally keeps to herself. she's such a sweetheart.
