Hi I am new to this kind of thing. I have a four year old little boy, named Sean. Sean has had chronic asthma since he was 9 months old, And now his asthma only seems to come at night, while he is sleeping, he will wake up and need a breathing treatment, does anyone know if i get a humidifier , or dehumidifer, will one of these work, and does anyone have any suggestions, to help me with this, my husband works nights, and I get really scared when Sean starts having his problems Im afraid something is going to happen, and i want to know if anyone can tell me something new to try. Thank you.
Hi there
Is your house too dry or too moist? They have at the stores (sorry I can't recall which one) a little device that measures the moisture in your house and it lets you know whether it's too dry or too moist. If you use a humidifier in a too moist house you will run into the problem of mold spores which is absolutely horrible for allergy and asthma sufferers. So before you run out to buy a humidfier or dehumidifier, please check the quality of moisture in your home. Many asthma sufferers, especially children, for some reason have an increase of symptoms at night when they sleep. My son was the same way at that age, he would never go into a full blown attack but he would cough all night. One of the things that my Ped. suggested is raising his pillows while he sleeps, have you tried this? Also too, definately contact your doc to see if he/she has other suggestions for you. Asthma is a scarey thing for sure especially when it involves your child.........take care and let us know how the little guy does
Thank you for that information, I will call and check our stores around here now, I never even thought of that, Im just trying to make his nights easier..... But i will be calling to see what i can find out, and his doctor is out of town until january 3rd, so i cant get ahold of him, and no one from his office has returned any of my calls so i decided to find help elsewhere. I will be switching him doctors after the first of the year for sure though. And again Thank you for that advice.... It is greatly appreicated, He is the only one of our child of the the three that has asthma, and he's the only boy so he is really the more hyper and mouthy one, towards his older and younger sister, so I just dont know what to do with him...
Thanks a lot,

my daughter is 3 and her symptoms are always at night also. She also has allergies one of which is dust mites. We saw an improvement when we had her pillow, boxspring and matress encased and removed as much material/cloth/stuffed animals from her room as possible. If you don't have a specialist for your child i realy recommend you see one. we have had such a turn around in our little girl once she saw an allergy asthma specialist and got almost all new meds for her and reduced as much as possible her exposure to allergens/triggers.
So very true Tiana, I forgot about the stuffed animals and such! It's been 10 years since my son had suffered from his allergy/ashtma symptoms that I forgot to mention that. Thanks for sharing
You should also wash his bedding often in hot water. and keep dust to a minumum. what you should also get is a hepa filter because most stuff that sets off asthma is stuff in the air floating around
We went thru the same thing when Cait was a wee one and we did as Tianna did ...and found a great improvement ..she was upset about her stuffies at first but feeling better didnt take too long ...Her nights were always the worst ..had a cough that sounded as though it was coming from the bowels (bottom) of her chest kinda like a croup cough......She still sleeps with head propped......her asthma has been better since switched to another inhaler as well .."Spiriva".....I hope you get your lil guy feeling better real quick it is hard when we cant "fix" some things isnt it ....Post and let us know how you are making out ..be well and God Bless .Lyn
