Question - Probiotic Reaction

I bought some Dannon Activia yogurt and started it yesterday.  I don't normally take probiotics (I know, I should) as I've been nervous about making things worse. I have IBS-C, so this really worries me.

Ok, about 6 hours after I ate the yogurt (which was good), I started having stomach cramps - not necessarily gas, but something.  By the time I got home at 6:00, I was running to the bathroom.  Nothing happened, but the cramping was horrible.  It eventually went away, but I'm rather bloated today.

Is this a normal reaction to any probiotic especially when you've never taken one?  Could this be a bit too much for my system?

I did, without thinking, eat another one this morning...

What do you think? I'm too new at this (probiotics) to make any rational decision!

Thanks, Sherree
Acidophillus pills give me mild gas cramps. I've never noticed gas cramps with yogurt before (less cultures than pills generally), but I think that new Dannon yogurt is supposed to have extra cultures? You may want to try a different brand to see if you can get less cultures or a different combination of cultures (acidophillus seems to bother me more than other cultures). Probioitics seem to give gas and/or cramps to most everyone when they start, so the trick is to start with a small amount and work your way up. Most people here say your body will adjust to the dosage in a week or two.
