Reglan poll...

How many people have taken Reglan, are taking Reglan, or quit taking Reglan?

I am curious to know how it helped and what side effects were present.

How long of a period of time were you taking it?

THANKS in advance for any answers or comments.

Peace,

I was on Reglan several months & it was helping but during a Mannograph my breasts were leaking (which had never happened), so went to my primary Dr. & she questioned the Reglan gave me a blood test & my Prolatin was high. She took me off of the Reglan for a month gave me another blood test & Mannograph & the prolatin was ok also the Mannograph!

A Dr. had given me a endoscope that's when he found out my stomach was emptying slowly. He found out Elival was doing it. That's why he put me on Reglan.

So I am off the Reglan but still on Elival for the fibromyalgia (sleeping).

I was on reglan for about a year after an esophagectomy.  Then was off for about 6 mo's. On again because of stomach discomfort and taken off after it didn't help.  Doesn't seem to make a difference to me........Dave

Thanks, Jennifer, for the good information website.

Thanks, also, to everyone for sharing your experiences.

You know, I think I need to commit to doing exercise.  After reading and hearing about Reglan, I think I should try to move the food through my stomach by moving MYSELF!

I heard Dr. Weil on 'Larry King Live' tonight and he pretty much advocates trying a natural route for healing, if possible, as opposed to drugs,  so I need to exercise and watch what I eat to help improve my reflux.

OK.  I have the roadmap.  Now I need to get my HEAD ON STRAIGHT! yeah

I took Reglan for about a year because I was waking up choking almost everynight. I never woke up choking while on Reglan, it really worked. I have since stopped and have not had the choking problem, but I take Zelnorm and Nexium so maybe those together help...I have taken Nexium since it was on the market and Prilosec before that.
Took the reglan for about 4 days along time ago. Hated it as it made me anxious and depressed, although it did help the Gerd...but the side effect was too much to handle so stopped taking it.

I am staunchly opposed to Reglan due to its potential side effects.  Sounds like you're aware of them already, but if not, do a web search to find info on numerous lawsuits against the manufacturers of the drug.  If Reglan is being prescribed for motility probs, there are other options available, among these Zelnorm and Erythromycin (in tab or the more effective liquid version).  Unfortunately, these alternatives do not tighten the LES as Reglan sometimes does.  When Reglan is being prescribed for nausea, there are even more alternative options.  I allowed Reglan to be administered to me once -- through IV -- when I wound up in the ER for serious heartburn, bloating, and vomiting.  No side effects, but once again that was a one shot deal.  Good luck in your decision making process.
