does it work ??

does this stuff actually fix the problem or is it just a drug to give a few hours of relief, my wife is on this stuff and i am worried that its not actually helping her...

Your wife may be experiencing an adverse reaction to the drug - it can make mania worse or induce it in some cases.   How long has she been taking it? Her anger/rage is a product of mania, stable BPs don't have the irritability/anger thing going, she needs to call her pdoc and report this, it is an accumulative medication meaning it builds up in the system, so side effects such as this may not appear until after the drug has been in the system for a few days or weeks.

she started taking it 3 day's ago, the first day 30MG each time, was pretty bad it almost seemed like it made it worse, on the second day the same thing, and last night it was a litte better....

she went to her doctor, and expressed her concerns about the anxiety and the temper, and because she also has a pituiry abenoma....

her doctor had her do a pregnacy test and it came back positive, and we both know she's is no pregnant, the doctor said it's because of the levels of prolacten in her system going all crazy...so the doctor gave her the REMERON RD 30mg once a day and Clonazepam
.5mg once a day...

my question was "and i'm sorry if it miss spell some words, or don't explain clearly enough"

* bacause she konws she has a temper and "gad" generalized anxiety disorder,
will the med's "REMERON and clonazepam help fix it for good if she takes it for a period of time,
or just give her a temporary fix...


once again i am sorry if i dont explain clearly, but its been a rough week...
and i am a bit tired....

i just have a lot of questions, and im going in circles trying to help her...

Don't apologize!  Looks like you are desperate for answers.  All meds work differently on different people, but the klonopin is a sure way to relieve anxiety, works very well and has a longer effect than xanax, ativan, etc.  Many times pdocs will prescribe it twice a day to keep it level all day.   He probably wants to see how she reacts to it first.  Do not increase the dose without talking to him, I am not recommending that, ok?

Remeron can affect different people drastically differently; antidepressants do that, especially in bipolar pateints.  Although it is a good drug, it is to be used with CAUTION in bipolar patients due to the risk of hypomania.  There is an adjustment period, it won't be totally effective for  few weeks, that's how antidepressants work, they accumulate in the system and gradually change brain chemistry.   If she has another  bad day, call the doctor immediately, don't risk a hypomanic episode.

I'm sorry you're having to go through this, it's really tough on the people around us, not to mention having her additional problem.   If I can be of any other help or you have more questions, please feel free to ask and I'll answer to the best of my ability.

P.S. the Remeron as long as it is taken every day and WORKS for her will  control her symtpoms to whatever level her body dictates, could be great, could be subpar.

well i take only 7.5mg when i go to bed at night, and it has so far helped me sleep....with all the other meds i take i don't know if it is doing the job yet...i sure hope they all do something..i just want to be stable, ty

Welcome to healingwell. I know when I've been on multiple meds I've often wondered what was supposed to be doing what. Very confusing. Sometimes you just have to trust your dr. I'm sure they know, (at least I should hope so lol). I think we all just want to be stable.

The only way you're going to get and stay stable is to learn what meds do what.  Research on the internet about meds for bipolar, these are the main classes:
 
Mood stabilizers
antidepressants (NOT the SSRI variety)
antianxiety meds
antipsychotic meds
sleep aids
 
Unfortunately, there are too many docs out there who do not even know themselves what meds to give with what and for what.  Best bet is to start with a PSYCHIATRIST, tell him  what your symptoms are, and add meds as you go.  Most BPs are on an average of 4.5 meds (Im on 6) depending the severity of the condition.  Learn to recognize the early warning signs of depression and hypomania and nip it in the bud.  Call your pdoc often, as often as you need to to get help.  Don't just trust that they will know everything, they do not and make many mistakes.  It's up to you to know about bipolar and meds, and work WITH your doc, dont just take whatever and figure that's going to work.  If it doesn't have any effect within a certain period of time, or is not agreeing with you, don't wait until your next appt!   Call!  Ask the pdoc how long this takes usually to see any results.   The more you know, the better you will feel, I promise, EVERYBODY who is BP can be stable on the right meds, you just have to be part of the equasion. 
 
Remeron usually takes a week or more to start seeing any difference, most antidepressants do.
