Seroquel as lone mood stabilizer

  After being dx w being BP-2 (mixed)----my pdoc prescribed 100mg of Seroquel at bedtime---& a very low dose (of course BP must be careful with anti-depressants)---of Effexor 37.5 mg once/day.        Lately been doing lots of reading on Seoquel---& it is now being used for acute mania in BP 1 as well.    
 
  So, my question.   Is there anyone else who is BP----who is taking Seroquel as their lone mood stabilizer?    It does help me sleep well--& good sleep is so important.       Thanks---Robert

Sorry Robert I do not take Seroquel, however I know alone it usually doesn't work . It is important to be on a few meds at the same time to work accurately. Best wishes, nickie

Seroquel is not usually used for monotherapy in more severe BP.  It is used in combination with a mood stabilizer to control mania. 

However, since you have soft BP spectrum, both would be too heavy for you, so the seroquel alone will probably get it.

  Hi Jennifer & all who responded,

   I've often heard that Seroquel is usually not enough alone as a mood stabilizer.   However, i did a search on this.   On the Seroquel site  

  www.seroquel.com     There it is stated that Seroquel can be used as a "mood stabilzer" for acute mania in BP 1.      I found this surprising , since i know it's a atypical anti-psychotic.     I thought it was usually used in conjunction with another mood stabilizer.  I was surprised to read this.   I guess this is a fairly recent development.   I'm still waiting to hear from others who are taking Seroquel as monotherapy for BP mania...either BP 1 or the hypomania of BP 2.   Thanks---Robert
