Shunt

I normally post on the Lupus board but I thought I would come over here because I have a lot of heart problems.  I have had mild pulmonary stenosis since birth.  I now have moderate pulmonary stenosis, mild aortic stenosis, heart enlargement and leaky valves.  Today I was having some problems so I went to the Cardio and she is concerned that I may have a shunt.  Does anyone here have that?  Could you share with me what symptoms you have and what has been done for it?
I am scheduled to have a CT of my chest and heart, an echocardiogram with bubbles and a 48 hour HOlter Monitor on Friday.  The doctor also mentioned the possibility of an anomaly of the veins of my heart or a possible pulmonary emoboli.  I am getting pretty worried about all this.  I was just diagnosed in June with Lupus and now it seems like my whole body is falling apart.

It's nice to meet you, but I'm sorry that all this is going on with you!  It's difficult at best to deal with a combination of illnesses and when it does concern your heart, it does get a bit more serious.

Well, I had my tests done today and they are pretty sure I have a shunt.  They are going to do another test in the hospital where they will put me to sleep and put a tube down my throat with a camera attached.  I believe it is called a TEE.  I don't know when that will happen. 

I go back on Nov. 2nd for all the results but they could see the shunting happening on the echocardiogram.

I guess I will do some research and try to find out about this now.

Mary Ann, you sure are learning all the terms quickly - though you sound very on top of things.  That's always a great sign!

Thanks, Teri,  I feel better today now that everything has had time to sink in.  I am going to look at this as a positive thing.  That they will be able to fix it and I will feel a lot better when they are done.  Hopefully, some of the fatigue I have will go away and then I will feel more "normal"
