sneaky GERD/severe diverticulosis

does GERD always sneak up on you? sometimes have no problems with any food, then get tummy ache from a meal having pretty much nothing that could cause discomfort. not heartburn, but that stuffed feeling with nasty taste coming up at times. about ready to quit on diet (losing too much weight anyway) and go back to eating potato chips, giving flax to the birds and just plain enjoying food again. ate chili with no bad effects. then had fish and baked potato and got pain. also got diagnosed with severe diverticulosis via barium enema. hey, i can't help it. any comments/suggestions on that nastiness? doc just says fiber, so added flax to my diet. feel like a canary having occasional tummy aches! LOL!

I have noticed that.... some things can trigger a bad attack and some seem to sneak through. One Dr told me to change my meds to taking it every other day.... and another DR said that isn't correct. The meds can rob your body of potassium. So I take meds every other day and it works good for me. It keeps the attacks down to a min. But Yea, I know what you mean, some foods cause a big problem and some don't. Tomatoes/bacon are killers. smile
Hi Linda, I just had surgery last month for diverticulosis. I have had it for more than 10 yrs. and I am 52 yrs. old. It is an awful thing to have to deal with. Attacks after attacks,  taking antibiotics all time. Diverticulosis is nothing to play around with. Do what your Dr. says. I stayed in the hospital for 8 days. That was no fun either. And there are always things that can happen during surgery, the tube leading from my bladder to my kidney was cut accidentally, and a stint had to be put in. Then I took a very bad infection in my kidney, had to stay another 6 days for that. So take it from me, becareful, watch what you eat, do what your tells you.
