Sores in nose

I have allergies and have sores in my nose. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do to get rid of them? When I blow my nose it bleeds from all the sores.

Hi Jasmine :) You can use an OTC saline spray to help moisten your nose because it sounds like either you have been blowing too much or the air is too dry. My bet is on the air. Also too if you don't have one yet, get a humidifier for your bedroom at night. Blow your nose gently until the sores heal and use a soft kleenex like Puffs Plus. I hope you feel better soon.

I have gotten severe sores in my nose in the past too.  Mine were very painful, as well as would bleed when blowing my nose.  WERE YOURS PAINFUL ALSO?  Mine were finally resolved with an ointment sample I got from my doctor.  I'm asking because I have a concern that I have Lupus - long story, I usually post on the Lupus board.

Yes they were very sore and bleed, I still do get them from time to time but the saline nose drops have really helped. Why do you think you have Lupus? I have a friend that has that and also has bad sores in her nose. I wonder if that is a sign of Lupus?

Actually nose sores are one of the symptoms that some people with Lupus get, along with mouth sores.  Mine is a very long complicated story -  my grandmother had it, I have other auto-immune diseases, I have a low positive ANA, and lots of other symptoms and past medical history that COULD be Lupus, but I don't have the other positive bloodwork, so that means I am in limbo until I either figure out what is wrong or I start having positive bloodwork.  My symptoms could actually be a part of many illnesses, not just Lupus, but that is one possibility.  Lupus can be very long and complicated to diagnose.  Maybe compare with your friend and try to determine if they are the same type of sores or not????

I'm sorry to here of all your problems. My friend has been in so much pain. She sometimes cannot get out of the bed in the morning. She has been to so many doctors and one told her he thought she has Lupus. I really don't think they really know what she has. I went to a doc ( nose , ears and throat ) years ago and the doc said mine came from the place that I work ( department store). I don't know if that is true are not, but he gave me nothing for it and never said anything about nose drops. I think mine is allergies.

I'm glad to hear that something works for you and that yours are from allergies.  I'm still hoping that mine are/were not typical lupus nose sores either, but I can't seem to find anything that really describes them, if you know what I mean. 

Sorry this will be gross (but then again, we're talking about NOSE sores!) - mine would form a "scab," kind of crusty-like and I just couldn't breathe, it would get so full feeling and I'd have to "pick" it off and it would be extremely painful and bleed a lot.  I just couldn't ignore it and leave it alone because I couldn't breathe.  At first I thought they were like canker sores in my nose, but I'm not sure if that's even possible.  This happened to me 3 fall/winters in a row - they'd start at the end of Oct. and end anywhere between Feb. and April, and would be CONSTANT!  I tried everything I could think of and nothing really helped much except Carmex a bit.  I don't know if I tried saline nose drops or not, just can't remember.  Finally, when I was at the doctor's for a routine exam, I mentioned this to her.  She didn't seem at all concerned and gave me a sample of some type of ointment.  She said if it cleared it up, it was a particular type of germ (I can't remember the word she used).  It did clear it right up and I've had no further problem with THOSE types of sores.

Last year I didn't get any, thank goodness!  This year, along with lots of other new and worsening on-going symptoms, I have had a bit a soreness in my nose.  This time it's very different and just seems to me more like dryness, rather than actual sores.  Happened a few times and did bleed once or twice, but cleared up within a day or so on it's own.  I was able to just ignore it because it really wasn't a problem this time, I was just aware of it when I'd blow my nose.

Again, sorry for the gross description.  I'm just trying to determine if mine are what are considered Lupus nose sores and can't seem to find anything that really describes them.  I have year round seasonal and environmental allergies too.

Its sounds like yours are from allergies too. Vasoline also helps me too. Mine sound about the same as your. Wish you well!!

I have very bad sores right now in my nose.They bleed when i blow my nose & my nose feels very stuffed up.I have had this for over a week now.Am i ok?will it go away?What can i do?

     I was hospitalized 4 wks ago with a severe asthma attack.  My nose is continously bleeding when I blow my and/or will start with a bleedy runny nose.  I had sores really bad from being on oxygen for 9 days but it is not stopping.  I am trying the saline soution but no luck.

Hi TeeB,
I also get a bloody nose for a time after a severe asthma attack. I had two this summer. I think it is from all the meds we get. It takes some time but does clear up. Also, the dry winter air does not help. Good luck:)

Welcome to Healingwell Cutie65, sores in the nose can be from the dry air. Try using a Saline nose spray first to see if that will help. It will help moisten your nasal cavity and also may help with the stuffy nose. If it continues for longer then a week after using the Saline nose spray, you may want to see your doctor. Good luck :) Oh and also, you may want to try adding a humidifier in your room at night to help moisten your nose as well.

TeeB, I know that oxygen can definately dry out your mucous membranes. Since the saline isn't working for you, you can try using a q-tip with a small amount of vaseline to lubricate your nose. Be careful doing this though because you don't want to go too far into the nasal cavity. Also, they have otc lubricants at your pharmacy - are you in the states? If so, you can find them at CVS or Walgreens, usually in the natural section.

Thanks, I do live in the States.  My nose has been runny like crazy that isn't helping out that much either.

Thank You Red_34.I do live in the states.I live in chicago ill.I have not tried anything yet.However i think it id dryness.It is clearing up a little now.It comes & goes.but when i get nose sores it can be annoying & painful. Thank you for your reply

I happened to come across this website....sores in nose. This is some information from an article I found that might help.
See your doctor because you might have nasal impetigo (Staphylococcus). This is a bacterial infection and you could be introducing the Staph infection by way of your fingertips, so keep fingers out of nose.
Your doctor can perscribe an antibiotic ointment such as mupirocin (trade name, Bactroban). Check it out.....

I use Ayr and OTC saline nasal gel.  It works well for me.  My allergist told me about it.

I've had the exact same problem as Calico1 - does anyone know what could be causing reoccuring versions of this?
