Can someone give me some ideas as to what this might be...? For the last week, I've had intermittent periods throughout the day where I get a sharp, pulsing pain in/behind my left eye and left temple. Also, during these "attacks", I feel the need to press on a pressure point at the base of my skull...as if a lot of pressure is building up back there. But pushing at the back of my neck/head doesn't actually help the pain. The sharp eye/temple pain lasts around 30 to 60 seconds and comes and goes every couple of minutes for anywhere from a half hour to an hour. Then, several hours go by with no pain at all. This morning at 8am I had the pain on my drive to work; then, it went away until about 20 minutes ago (it's 1:55pm). The pain is by no means debilitating or excruciating, but it is very strong and makes me flinch and want to close my eyes and press on them (doesn't feel better, but I guess my instinct is to push on the area that hurts). I've researched cluster headaches, and it sounds unlike what I'm having since I've never woke up in the middle of the night from the pain (the sites I've visited list that as an indicator of cluster headaches). Also, OTC pain killers don't help.
Any ideas?
Hi Bg,
Welcome to Healing Well. Have you seen a Neurologist at all? Everyone experiences headache in a different way whether it's migraine, tension headaches, cluster headaches or anything else.
Have you ever kept a diary of what you experience as a Neurologist or any other Doctor for that matter would be able to see what is happening to you.
Keep in touch here and let us know how you get on.
Take care Ann.

Ann,
Since it's so new, I wanted to wait to see a doctor until I'm sure it's not going to just go away on its own. After doing a lot of research today, I will be scheduling an appointment asap. Thank you for the kind words!
hi bg, think ann gave you good advice there, you are right it doesn't sound like cluster, but there are other headaches which are similar to cluster too, see a neuro as soon as you can for peace of mind
