sudden dizziness

Do any of you get a sudden really intense dizziness that only lasts for a few seconds, probably folloed by some panic or heavy anxiety? If So... Have you chalked it out to be purely anxiety-related?
Hi Leah,
just a guess but if anxiety is following the dizzy spells then the anxiety is a response to them, there could be a lot of reasons for the dizziness, and of course Anxiety may be responsible, but it is a common symptom of many things,
what are you doing when you get these spells, ?

are there any other pains or sensations, that are not usual, ?

theres no harm seeing a Doc about this,

Could be an ear or sinus infection,
If I stand up suddenly I get really dizzy . Is that what you mean? When I'm anxious I get dizzy, but it comes on more slowly.
No this just has come "ou to fthe blue" a few times the past couple months, and THEN the normal dizziness comes and I start to either panic or feel panicky.
Hi Leahbeans--Gosh--Glad you posted on this.  YEP, i get this.  Out of the blue--sudden dizzy episode--like i'm gonna pass out---then it goes.  But- it really shakes me up.        Been checked out.  My Dr. & Psychiatrist say it's nothing to worry about.   But-yea--this is DIFFERENT from the "positional" vertigo i get--this comes on like "lightning"--then passes---Robert
Hi Leah and Woton,
There's so many possibles with Dizziness as you are explaining, but maybe if it continues ask your Doc to get a blood test to check white blood cell count, it may show up that you have an infection somewhere, how i had it explained to me, was an infection that has healed over, like a boil, you don't always get the fever or stuff like that, but it can cause this feeling, it took me 3 visits top different docs, about 12 years ago, the first 2 jumped on the usual, its anxiety, the 3rd, took a blood sample and latter given antibiotic's which cleared the problem,

I just think that as it seems to come on before any sign of anxiety, then it's worth looking into, as, if you didn't feel this dizziness then you wouldn't be anxious about it, it may be nothing serious, but i think the mind knows exactly what is going on in the body, and any little change from the neck up can cause the mind to respond, usually with anxiety, so be aware of your sinus area, "this is not just your nose" throat, ears, eyes, any headaches , strange tastes in your mouth, gums,
Hope this gives you a little to work with, and let me know how you get on
do you feel guilty about anything?
no- well yes, when i have anxiety i feel guilty for not being as good of a mom and wife i should be. never feel good enough
This happens to me too sometimes- but- in my case I think some of it is a result of medication. I didn't realize until later that a side-effect of Wellbutrin is dizziness (can be that is) Is it possible this could be a result of a medication or suppliment?

No-well maybe.....I've been on Zoloft for 2+ years now.  I dont think that is it.  Although the dizziness started back then, on and off since then, so maybe it's the meds, maybe it's the panic/anxiety?  Who knows?  Two years ago I had 2 MRI's a CAT scan of my sinuses and I had my eyes throughouly checked out.  I also passed a hearing test with flying colors.  Nothing abnormal showed up anywhere.  Not to mention I also had a 30-day heart holter monitor on around that time and I had an ultrasound of my heart.  All A-Okay!  I do have sinus-tachycardia but that's just a benign fast heart rythmn, could be linked to anxiety/panic/stress/caffeiene/tobacco.  I have all of the above.  I have always had on and off problems with my right ear.  It feels full sometimes, and I used to hear it pop every now and then, and maybe once a month I'll get this really high pitched ringing for maybe 30 seconds.  Just went to doc and bloodwork was normal, hemoglobin, blood sugar and thyroid.  Of course what I immediately start to think is that I have some tumor that has grown since my last MRI, and etc......PANIC! or DIZZINESS is amplified. But sometimes not.  It's all so tricky to figure out, even for doctors, becasue it's such a vague symptom....AHHHHHH!  I wish I could for sure say "IT'S ANXIETY-RELATED" and believe it.  Or if it is from something else, I wish I could just know, and accept it and do whats necessary.  When I take my Klonopin though I do feel better, and the PA I saw last week said if that makes it feel better it's "most likely" anxiety-related.  Sorry to Babble,

Leah

Try having implement the relaxation response into his daily routine
just once or twice a day, it has completely changed my life, I used
to have panic attacks, and constant anxiety, worrying, it clears
your mind of anxious thoughts and also relaxes your body to a deep
level in which you are actually healing the negative effects of the
serotonin release by your worried and anxious thoughts, consistant, anxiety starts with a consistant dose of negative
behavoir and worrysome thoughts, it can become a habit,
physical pain and symptoms and literally any sort can be
a result of a imbalance in your body which is caused by
anxiety, youw ant to cure the cause well, good luck, try to elicit
the relaxation response daily, through meditation, deep
breathing excercises, hypnosis or whatever you choose,
every pyschiatrist is aware of this technique now you
can ask for their advice, even a chiropractor should
understand the role of breathing and physical health.
and dizziness is just another symptom of anxiety,
it is completely harmless however can be deblilatating
I had dizziness and unbalance/unsteadiness for months!
completely GONE after implenting the relaxation
response every day, its that simple, anxiety is a fight
or flight response, the relaxation response founded
by herbert benson at stanford hostpital is the OPPOSITE.
do it!!!!!!! It saved and changed my life, I am soo
happy now, wanted to share with everyone because
I know what you are going through, give it a few
weeks, let me know how it goes.
Good luck!!
hvyhitter........There are many THAT do get relief from meds .....we discuss alternative ways here but to discount meds altogether is not something we do as our Docs DO put us on them and we are a support group here not physicians........Take care ....God Bless....Lyn

I have something very similar to this, where the room spins suddenly without warning. it lasts for about 10 seconds, not positional vertigo.
Hi,
I have very sudden vertigo that lasts about 5 seconds through ou tthe day. I was diagnosed with menieres about a year ago, migth want to look into this.
Years ago I had the sudden onset of the room spinning past me. It lasted a few seconds but I ran to the doctor. He explained that it was vertigo from anxiety.

Dizziness, as everyone has already explained, can be caused by many things. Have you had your blood pressure checked? I get lightheaded now but I think it's from the beta blocker I'm on. Blood pressure fluctuates throughout the day and it may be causing it. Also, make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids and not going without eating.

Make a doctor appointment so you will rest easier about this. Let us know what the doc says if you do go!

Hi - just found this thread. I am having exactly the same experiences. Cannot figure out what it is. Started 15 months ago. I had started swimming, given up alcohol and had 7 months of keeping fit, not drinking, lots of green tea. Immediate thought was that it was an inner ear infection from swimming. But that seems to be a no no. I have to say that when it started I was as calm as I have ever been in my life! Have started drinking again (not to excess!!!) and that has made little difference. The 'episodes' happen every couple of weeks and whilst the dizzy spell will pass after a few seconds there is a residual spacey feeling and sickness feeling that can last for hours. I am ob statins and blood pressure pills - after my recent visit to the Doc he suggested diuretics to further reduce my Blood Pressure and maybe sort out the constitution of the fluid in my inner ear. Thought it might be working - but just had another episode. I have also had hearing tests and been to see a specialist who can manipulate your head to reset the bones in the inner ear –but as my eyes did not flicker under testing this also was not deemed to be a problem.
Anyone had any luck with this?
Hi Bear,

This is exactly what i was goign through, I think mine started after a long vacation where i was swimming in deep waters and the pressure might have effected my ear.  Its funny that you mention green tea because before this all started I began to drink green tea in heavy quantities. Go see a specialist and have him check you for meniere's, if you experience fullness and ringing in your ear it could be your problem.  Good luck.
