so it seems that dannon and breyers are jumping on the probiotic bandwagon providing us with more live cultures in our yogurts. my question is this; since yogurt has so much sugar is it worth buying into the new products? i want to simply stick to popping acidophilus but i don't want to 'miss out' on helping my body even more. the skeptic in me says that it is not worth the money, and i should spend my cash on good pill probiotics.
has anyone tried this stuff?
also, besides acidophilus what do you take?
thanks everyone and take care!

what would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?
I see your point... they may be marketing to people that want the probiotics but not the people with a sugar sensitivity. I wonder if they also sell a plain yogurt version. I know that has sugar also but much less. If you are having success with the acidophilus caplets then you are probably fine with that. If not, you could always try a different probiotic since there are quite a few. I have not started probiotics myself because I am on so much new medication and changing doses, etc. Once I get settled I think I am going to try the VSL#3 that is discussed a lot on the UC forum, I hear its pricey but lots of people have success with it.

Stoneyfield sells plain yogurt that I'm pretty sure has no added sugar at all in it (all milk products, though, have some amount of natural sugar). Boy, is it tart!!! I found, though, that adding some sweetened granola to it made it tolerable. Of course you can always get plain yogurt and add as much sugar as YOU want--which is probably less than manufacturers would have put in it.
I found that yogurt was much more beneficial for me than acidophillus pills, namely because the acid. pills gave me gas and the yogurt didn't and the calcium in the yogurt did more good for me than the probitotics did. The only thing is, you get tired of yogurt after a while. My suggestion to you, if you are already on the acid. pills, is to just stay on them and eat yogurt when you feel like it. Yogurt has other cultures in it besides acid. (Stoneyfield, I think, has the most of any brand), so that is always good for you, but you can get those same cultures in multi-probitotic pills like Digestive Advantage and Culturelle. I think, however, that you will find a yogurt a day is less pricey than those items, although it probably won't deliver as many cultures.

I like to eat organic yogurts. At least the sugar in organic is real sugar as opposed to fructose and corn syrup. As well, I like soy yogurt and it might be worth trying for those of you who are lactose intolerant. Some people are turned off by the soy yogurt texture. Soy smoothies with probiotics mask the soy texture and taste. They are so yummy!
Question: I bought some liquid probiotic stuff. Can I mix that with juice? The liquid is suppose to be strawberry apple flavored but kind of taste like fermented apple juice.
