I am a 28 year old woman who has suffered from GERD for 2 years now. I have recently gotten married and my husband and I want to start a family. My major concern is that my acid reflux will become even worse if/when I become pregnant. I think I am going to have the laprascopic fundolication done, but I'm not sure if I should do it before I plan on having a family of after.
Is there anyone out there who has had the fundoplication and then gotten pregnant afterwards? Was the reflux o.k. during the pregnancy? Or did it come back?
I want to have the surgery because I don't want to live like this anymore, but am very apprehensive at the same time. I also understand that you cannot vomit after it is done -- so what is a pregnant woman to do if she gets bad morning sickness?
Hi! I also have GERD, and can tell you when I was pregnant with my son, my heartburn soared. But after the first trimester, it seemed to settle down. I was actually more comfortable pregnant than I am now! But I know many pregnancies are different, so maybe your heartburn won't act up.
Have you read about a new procedure called Enteryx? It's an out-patient surgery that's supposed to have really good results. It does have some side-effects, but nothing like laprascopic fundolication. You can read more about it at www.reflux1.com I'm actually going to see my Dr. to discuss having this procedure done myself. It seems much less invasive than the usual surgery.
