OK Remember there are all types and stages. The important thing is like everyone else has told know, know the enemy and begin the battle. It does sound like you have an awesome group of friends ready to help. We are all ready to help here, too.
The smoking battle has been won here, too. Jo-Ann was a real chain smoker and she quit four years and a couple of weeks ago. She chewed Nicorette until she couldn't stand it anymore and then went to regular gum. But she did it and if she did it anyone can, believe me. We will cheer you on. I had my last cigarette before my mastectomy and then told myself I was not going to push my luck with any more cancer sticks, but I was not a habitual smoker so I managed pretty easily.
Don't dwell on the most negative aspect of breast cancer. Yes, many have lost their lives, but many, many more have not and quite a few put in a good many decent years before losing the battle. I had a friend who had 23 of 25 nodes positive. She lived a darn good twelve years after her first year or two of treatment.
Share with us your path reports, etc. I am sure some help in understanding them will be ready for you.
Hugs and prayers that all goes smoothly,
Mary K.
Yes the cigarettes is going to be a *****, but I will have my last one, before I go on all the tomixifn, or whatever they put me on.
I plan on living forever, well as long as the god lord gives me.
I will share all my labs and stuff as soon as I get them.
They have not checked my lymph nodes yet, that will be in the next surgery.
Randi-
I hate it when these docs tell people that they WILL go into menopause. No guarantees, unless they take your ovaries out. Some go into temporary menopause, or chemopause. I was 31 when I did chemo and never skipped a beat. I am 36 now and finishing up Tamoxifen, never skipped a period. In fact, I remained pretty regular. Your age will have a lot to do with it...but I wanted to caution you about a guarantee....

Darn it, I was looking forward to not having a period, but I"m in peri meno so it might just end it for me. oh well.
I took Tamoxifen for 5 years. I had a period off and on for a couple of years but since then - not a one in years. I think I was around 40 when I started taking it. NO period is NOT bad news!

Randi, I'm sorry the news wasn't what you were waiting for. You have some fantastic outlook though and I love it. Growing up my sister and I always lived by the saying: pick yourself up, dust yourself off.... you know the rest! I've lived by that for my breast cancer journey too. Just know we'll be here for you. Hugs, Libby
Friends are God's way of taking really good care of us.
Randi,
I'm sorry about your results, but you have a fantastic attitude. As everyone has said, this is the #1 important factor in your treatment and recovery. You are very fortunate to have such a great support group around you, too.
As for no more periods, yes- that's great, but I HATE the hot flashes! I'm 45 and haven't had my period since December, which was just after my 2nd chemo. I don't know if it will last or not.
L & H,
Kathy

Randi,
Just popping in here to say I will be thinking of you. I just love your attitude, that is what it takes to get you thru this.
I am a 20 year survivor as of March 28. I was 33 when I was DX, had a recurrence 2 years after that and I am still here to talk about it. I have been blessed!!!!!!!!!
You have found a wonderful place here for support.
Hang in there sweetie!!!!!!!
Hugs,

I know that you did not get the news you were hoping for. I know this is not a path that you would have chosen to follow. But, we are all here for you. Your attitude is great. It sounds like you have wonderful support at work and at home. You have a powerful, wonderful network of people pulling for you. Wishing you the best. I know we will be hearing from you as you travel this new road. Hugs, Lauri

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
Randi, I, too, am sorry you joined the club, but as you indicated, there are sometimes silver linings in the clouds, and for me these wonderful ladies are just that! Please know we are with you all the way! L&H, Gail
It's only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth -- and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up, we will then begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it was the only one we had. Elisabeth Kubler Ross
Randi, not getting my period is one of the joys I have experienced during cancer treatment. The other, like you said, is meeting wonderful people that I would never have met. I like your mantra "Bring it On". It's a good one.
