topamax and contraceptives????

Anyone used topamax with any contraceptives? I was on it for a long time but came off because of the side effects and i wasn't really sure that it was making a real difference. Now I am considering going back on (lack of options) but have since started taking Micronor, a progesterone only pill. It sounds like topamax and contraceptives do not mix well - anyone have any thoughts or experiences?

I have been on Topamax for a few years (off and on) and I have taken contraceptives  for years and still no children. I think that it varies from person to person, but think that it is a general "blanket" statement in case there are any interactions etc.

I would check with the pharmacist just to be on the safe side. I personally have not had any issues!

Hello,

I am taking Topamax and was also on it a few years ago. I am on Depo Provera a progesterone only birth control and have had no problems with it working.

Woah, I know this isn't the "birth control" forum...but...Nicky...have you had any trouble wiht Depo? I was on that for a few YEARS....and after the fact had some issues come up that I thought they should have told me BEFORE I got on it...email me...We'll chat...Speaking of chat...we need to work that out anyway...

Hi Sara,

I haven't had the problems that others have had with Depo. I already had a weight problem before I started it and the Topamax is fixing that (Yeah!!!). My sister found it made her really emotional and I've never found that. I like the fact that I don't cycle anymore so I don't get that week every month and that removes one week of headaches. Sounds good...just checking...

I love Topamax for the weight thing too...this time around...I have lost 30lbs already!!! Gotta love it!
