Toungue Biting (not from seizures)

nono   nono   Hi folks.
This probably sounds really stupid but maybe someone can relate, Is it the epilepsy MEDICATION or a different matter:
 
I am finding that over the years of dilantin and pheonobarb use, my toungue seems to be too large, resulting in slurred speech AND lots of frequent toungue biting as well as the inside of my cheek.  I have to chew gum every day because I have halitosis from my other meds that I take for my Colitis and I constantly bite my toungue or inside of my cheek.  It even happens when I eat. This has been over the last couple of years and becoming more frequent.
 
Q  Could this be a result of long term use of epilepsy meds?
I have not found any documetation on it but I thought it might have something to do with the slurred speech.

20mg-Celexa/day

Sorry Randy, sounds so painful and frustrating. I bite my cheek and tongue often, from spasm in my jaw from TMJ......


It sounds possible I guess that the meds could be part of it....I will go do a search and post if I find anything...

Have you tried switching to mints instead of the gum to see if that helps? I use them often since my sinus problems also cause bad breath and a bad taste in my mouth....

Hope you find a way to stop it........

Not sure if it's related or not, but I chew on the side of my mouth as well.  I find that I do it a LOT when I'm nervous"
 
Hi.  I do the same thing.  I don't know why I thought it was very strange of me.  I tend to do it as a nervous habit sometimes.  If I realize what I am doing I stop.  Hmm.  I don't think it is cause I am swollen from meds, just more of a strange thing for me.  Hope you get some relief Randy.  Take care Tracy
