Well, I was a Lantus user and now Im a Byetta user but the problems are still the same. How do you transport your meds in a 36-46degree F. environment for any length of time? I've been using the frozen gel pack that came with some sort of product I ordered and putting it in one of those foil lined insulated carryalls that hold about a six pack of cola. Kind of a nuisance for one silly little Byetta pen or one tiny vial of Lantus insulin.
So - I stumbled across this product the other day, and I have not personally tried it but I thought I would post it here and maybe we can get some forum feedback.
The product is the FRIO wallet. It appears to be made in the UK and it is marketed worldwide. It seems to have been approved in the UK and by the FDA here in the US for carrying insulin and related stuff. Whats neat about it is how it works.
YOU DON'T have to freeze this puppy!!! NO batteries, nada. You simply take it and soak the liner of the wallet in water for 5-15 minutes (depending on how big a wallet you have) and voila, you are good to go for up to 45 hours! It appears to keep things cool based on the principle of evaporative cooling. That is, as the water evaporates from the crystals inside the wallet, it cools the interior of the wallet and keeps our goodies cool and safe.
These thingys are not terribly expensive with the pen sized wallets running $20-$25, much less money than the contraptions I've seen for Byetta pens so far.
Sooooooo, has anyone tried one of these?? I'm probably going to get one and I'll stick a thermometer inside it and let everyone know what my results are, but in the meantime, I'd love to hear about this or any thing else that seems effective for transporting those meds we have to keep refrigerated.
