Ok, I don't think this is anxiety related, but I'm having anxiety about it, so here I am! . For the last couple of weeks I keep getting soreness under and around my underarms. I've had this occasionally in the past, but I have no idea what it is. Suddenly, I'm feeling all neurotic and worried that I have cancer, my current paranoia. Anyone ever had this or heard of this?
liz, i get the same thing!! i keep getting these weird twinges of pain in my armpits... i dont understand where its coming from! i haven't had them for a couple days, but they come and go. its really a mild pain feeling, but when i feel in my underarm for something that might cause the pain (a bump or lump?) i feel nothing. its so weird! sometimes i notice it when i move my arm back and forth, and then it just disappears. sooo weird!!!

I get this as well from time to time. I used to worry myself sick about it too, until I read about it in an anxiety book. Seems it's related to muscle strain. Probably from being so tense. Wouldn't hurt to have it checked with a doc though, just to put your mind at ease.
Thanks Jayne, maybe I will if it continues. I hate calling the doc unless I know it's not anxiety related. I've had this doc for a few years and I only come to him for regular checkups and sinus infections or other things that are concrete. I'm the opposite of the person who goes to the doc or emergency room with everything. I'm a closet hypochondriac, but I don't want him to know it because I'm afraid he won't take me seriously if I call him for every little thing. I could tell my last doc was humouring me most of the time. I had him when I first started getting anxiety, before I knew it was anxiety, so I'm sure I was a little whacky, but he never took me seriously after that. Wow, that was some run on sentence, sorry, I'm not quite awake. My mind isn't up and running yet .
I am also a "closet hypo" as you said it. I dont go for every thing I feel or see. Which probably makes things worse, cuz then I just sit there and worry about it, instead of being told its nothing! But, I get shy and just let it go a lot of times. Most times.
about the underarm pains..... well, this is going to sound weird... but, if I dont have on any deodarant, my armpits sort of stick or something and causes pain or atleast discomfort. Could this be it? See I think my deodarant lets me "Swing" my arms freely without getting that "grabbing" feeling of my skin getting stuck or whatever --- Oh man I cant describe it!! LOL!
Anyway, could it be only when you are just out of the shower or without deodarant that you feel this? Cuz, I cant go without it. I forgot one day to put it on, which is rare, but I did and I had to stop and buy some so I could use it and not feel that "grabbing" feeling in my underarms.
I know what you mean! I always wear deoderant too. I just recently bought a different kind though and it feels kind of dry. Like it actually scrapes me when I'm putting it on. I bet that's it, thanks Peachy. Glad I didn't go to the doc's for that one .
I'm a closet hypo too!!!!! Actually I think the worst thing for people like us is the internet. You can look up anything on this darn thing. I so far have Parkinsons, cancer of everything, heart disease, yeast galore, IBS, etc etc. Heh, tongue in cheek of course. I DO understand about the doc though. I had one like that years ago and he made me feel like a blubbering idiot, when in all fact, I was suffering terribly from post-partum depression. He told me to pull myself up by the bootstraps and smarten up or I'd have a complete breakdown! A little compassion and understanding would have gone a long way....sheesh. Thankfully my doc now is lovely and loaded with kindness. (he's cute too...sigh) LOL
LOL Jayne ... I actually did laugh out loud when you said "I so far have Parkinsons, cancer of everything, heart disease, yeast galore, IBS, etc etc." The cancer of everything part just cracks me up, why is it that when we feel some benign twinge of pain it automatically means cancer?? Weird!!!
So I switched deoderants too about 2 months ago... and mine doesn't go on super smooth either, sometime i feel like I am pressing it too hard... I wonder if that really does have anything to do with it???
On another note, now I am getting these pains in my chest, mostly on the right side, like behind my breast... sometimes it feels crampy, and sometimes it moves lower to the bottom of my ribs, and sometimes to the other side, or sometimes to my back between my shoulder blades! I dont like it, and sometimes changing positions makes it go away. Does anyone else get this :( I hate this. I asked my doctor about it at my last two appts which were a month apart and she didn't seem to show any concern. I relaly dont wan't to go back again, I thought I was done with my hypochondriac phase for now :( I also have this ache that comes and goes in my groin area on both sides.... that is something I have never felt before :( arg................

Ali, what do you do for a living? I, for instance, work in an extended care unit, lifting elderly and incapacitated people and pushing heavy stretchers all day. I can NEVER seem to relate this to the aches and twinges I have at the end of the day. Also, for some strange reason it seems to act up when I'm trying to go to sleep! Argh is right. Shoulder pain radiating down my arms (my nightly heart attack symptom) in between my shoulder blades (another heart symptom, failure perhaps? Makes me want to check my ankles for swelling) hands tingling and going numb (stroke of course) etc etc. You would think I would get used to it, but NO. Every night I get up and pace for while before finally falling asleep exhausted and waking up to do the same thing that very next night. I think it has to be a combination of muscle fatigue and anxiety. I can make a pain anywhere in my body if I think about it hard enough. Maybe it's learned pain that we've conjured up so often it's become a body ritual? Just a thought. Take care, JayneWhere there is tea, there is hope...
Oh no! I hope pain can be learned, that would truly stink! I have lots of pains too. I get chest pains and pains down my arm. I think it's from carrying my almost 2 year old around too much and muscle tension from anxiety . I don't worry too much about a heart attack now, but I wonder how bad I'll be when I'm older .
Sorry had to post on this one. When I was in college I fell and hurt my armpit and I kept saying "I broke my armpit." Now, 10 years later every once in a while I say the same thing "I think that i broke my armpit." It is really quite amazing that I have never been admitted to a mental ward!!! Thanks for the laugh and the comfort that I am not the only one with broken armpits. lol, dammyThanks for listening.
If I can do anything to help you please let me know.

Liz.. Yep, I bet that couldve been what it was. I dont know why, but I think armpits are sensitive, and if you had a "scrapey" deodarant, maybe it caused irritation.
Anyway, the broken armpit joke..... what a riot! :)
And Jayne, I came up with emphysema all of a sudden last night, it went away though. Its like magic! Comes and Goes w/ a snap of the finger!
Take care! Mandy

Well girls ...........now this is just my opinion here but I do think you all have "broken armpits "...............fixable ,but broken.......LOL.......This was my first post I read this am and want to thank you for the chuckles ...........now to the serious side ,I bet it has to do with the deodorant , but that is only my theory ..........God Bless ...Lyn

I can't do the sprays or the super dry ones either because of the sticking feeling. I do pile the deo on every morning so they don't stick and kind of slide. It works really well for me but I feel like I am always buying deodorant.

i am currently suffering from panic attacks and also have the underarm thing. which makes me nervous. but since it sounds like a few of you have had it then I guess it is just from the anxiety!
