Saw my onc today. She said I definetely needed the mast. We are going to wait until results of gene test to see if i can do the bilateral. And she verified that i will be going through some chemo because of my age. It scared me at first but at least finally said what i needed instead of "its your decision". Even though I know it is still my decision sometimes theres just too many decisions to make. I don't have the medical degree they do so I'm going to trust them. She also said I could have immediate reconstruction. Perky breast and tummy tuck doesn't sound too bad after 3 kids lol. Check back with you soon....Sherry
Sorry to hear it is definite that you need a mastectomy. Did you get a copy of your path report? Maybe some of the girls who are more knowledgeable than I can help tell you more. Once you make all the decisions and have things lined out, you will be more at peace. We will be here to hold your hand along the way. Perky breasts and tummy tucks are good...................... You know when you get cancer its to late to go to college for your medical degree. What you can do is study your doctors. Find out all you can about them. Never assume your doctor has never made a mistake. Find out all you can about his or her history. You always have time for that. Ask others if that is the treatment they got. So sorry about the mast news. But this is OK. Joyce is right, study your doctors and their history. Read and learn all you can about the surgery and about reconstruction. It is not always for everyone and not always the right decision to make right away. You can always have reconstruction later. I decided to have it right away. It was a good decision for me.
There does come a point when you have to trust your doctors, but you need to have the knowledge you gain from researching your situation and needs. Not any doctor is perfect, most mean well and take good care but they are only human.
Sherry, sorry to hear that news but trust me you are in good company here! We will all be with you every step of the way. You have gotten some great advise already, just take it one day at a time. Sending prayers your way along with some hugs!
