Hello to all..........the time has come !!..........Thursday of this coming week I am booked for surgery to replace my aortic valve. Yes I AM scared 'witless' but at the same time trying very hard to remember all the positive things. I met the surgeon yesterday and his words were .........."You are my very first ". Now I did have to see the funny side of it (I think!!) but I wonder 'very first what?'. If I was his first 'replacement' then I guess at least he will be more careful than if he had been doing it for years !! .........wouldn't look very good on his record if 'very first' ended up a 'write off' now would it.

I'm glad you're waiting time is almost over and you can get this fixed and enjoy life a bit more!
You'll have to fill us in on everything...like what were your symptoms beforehand? What type of replacement are you having done? Mechanical, or biological?
I can tell you one thing, you are sure to feel better afterwards!!
By the way...do you think your Dr. was teasing you?! :)

I'm sorry to hear that you, too, are having aortic valve problems and that's why you are here...please come on over here whenever you have any questions, or just need to vent!

Hi there to all (Terri and Curley )........thank you for your thoughts and good wishes. I am now back home (May 20th) and have been for a week now. Sorry not to have replied earlier but only found your reply Curley couple of days ago. Well.......all has gone very well I am glad to say. I only had the usual average one week stay in hospital. I can honestly say the worst part for me was the anticipation of it all. When I was sick in hospital fifteen months ago and diagnosed with crohns disease I felt and was in a far worse state than I am now (touch wood !) Like you curley.......I too have Crohns !! In fact........I was also diagnosed with Parkinsons this year !! so it really has been a year full of activity and (non)excitement (like heck!)
Back to the 'brand spanking new valve' I am now sporting.............it shows every sign of being a success.............I have already found myself being able to walk much better a couple of times than I have for months and months. Its not the same every day but it is still early days and is at least looking very promising.
