Weightlifting and Depression

I've been lifting weights since I was 13 years old. I have had severe depression and anxiety for 15 years now. I was about 25 when the fun started. Nontheless I've been pretty dedicated and I've had to force myself many many times to go lift. It does make me feel better for sure. about 3 months ago, seemingly for no reason at all, I got tendonitus in both elbows. It's pretty painful so I'm limited when using "free weights." It's sooooo... frustrating. I loved to work my biceps and triceps. Now it hurts so bad I simply can't do curls or lift dumbbells to my chest. I do cardio too, but, without the weights, I don't care!

I don't even feel like going to the gym anymore. What's the use? My painful elbows are just one more limitation I have to deal with. Depression has kept me away from the gym enough because I felt too worn out, weak, or anxious to go. Now this??

Man, I'm so sick of this stuff!!

Can someone relate with me on the weightlifting? I'm pretty discouraged!!
Hi greg, I can relate with not being able to do what I enjoyed most lately.. because of depression and medicine related arthritis.. if it helps =\

I love art!~ I draw, paint, woodburn, woodwork, sew costumes.etc, make jewelry, and even pottery.. I've been making things since I was a kid and what I love most is to oil paint and beadwork and its soo painful now because I got arthritis in my hands because of some of the medicine I take and I've lost alot of confidence. I used to use it as a form of therapy, I guess because what I would give to be able to sit down and create something again.. But I can't (frowns) not just because of the arthritis but also because my hands aren't steady anymore so I gave up trying. Sad thing is I'm 31, wait did I say that? I mean 24!!!! hehe
Anyways, I know its not weightlifting but it was something that I loved to do.. It is VERY frustrating, because it was unexpected and I'm mad because it could've been prevented.
I've taken up photography now, capturing art :) may not be the same thing but it doesnt hurt that much to "click a button" I've worked with a company taking photos, but its funner when your able to take a picture of what you want instead of having to.
Have you thought about maybe teaching others how to weightlift? With your experience and knowledge, I bet you'd be good at it!

There are two days in the week about which and upon which I never worry.  Two carefree days, kept sacredly free from fear and apprehension.  One of these days is Yesterday... And the other day I do not worry about is Tommorrow.

What a great idea Nature's Spirit! Teaching weighlifting is a great idea, and Greg, your passion about it will help you too since you know so much about it.

NS, into photography, that is great! That is one of my few passions these days. I am a photographer. And I agree with you...Big difference going out and shooting a job for work at a newspaper than just grabbing your gear and having fun! I love to take pictures of real fun things too. I like to do silly pictures, with humour. What kind of company did you work at? I used to work at a newspaper up until afew years ago...
