weird night happenings

Okay, last night something really weird happened and I’m not sure exactly what it was. I was tossing and turning all night with a bad cold and I finally fell asleep around three. However, I awoke later, staring up at the ceiling. I couldn’t move and I swear I saw a dark shadow standing over me shaking it’s arm. At first, for some strange reason, I thought it was my boyfriend, but then I realized I could still feel him lying next to me. I finally came to, my vision cleared and I could hear and move. Afterwards I too nauseous and dizzy to sleep well.

I don’t know if it was a night terror or some kind of seizure. Previously I’ve just had grand mals, mostly at night. However, about a month ago I was having "episodes" all day, I think they were simple complex and partials, capped off with a grand mal when I finally went to the hospital. I’ve had similar occurrences to what I described above and always just brushed them off as dreams or my imagination. But their similarity to what happened a month ago makes me wonder. I have a doctors appt on Friday and I was wondering if I should talk to him about it.

I sure hope the doctor can shed some light on what happened! It sure sounds scary! I know there are sleep disorders that have odd things like this, too. Odd things and seizures do tend to go hand and hand....

I definetly am not a doctor, Just thought I would share experience about seizures during sleeping hours... I have just really found out in the past year, that I had activity at night during my sleep.. I never even knew it... I had activity 2 nights in a row while I was in for a VEEG last year..
My point of telling you this is.... Maybe you are having more activity at night than you know of... I find my self waking up exausted !!! The docs told me most times you are likely to have activty in your sleep... I never knew this till last year !!!  Just last night I woke up the same... tossing like crazy !!  I wasnt having a gran mal or anything.. I was just very uncomfortable.... Its odd, because when I was in the hospital last year... the nights that I had the activity... I told the doctors, when I had the activity, I told them that I was very uncomfortable and just didnt feel right..... and they said yep... the eeg shows spiking at that time.....Maybe you should look into having a 24 hour eeg ??  Just a thought..... :-)
 
One more thing... You wrote on an earlier post you are on Keppra... I am also on Keppra.. It has been a lifesaver as far as seizure control.... But i did notice you said you are anxious and moody... I think you said that any way... correct me if I am wrong confused ......  I noticed the Keppra makes me very moody !!! I just am not ready to give it up yet because it has helped my seizure control so much..... But just be careful with it..... It scares me..... I know one minute I am happy the next I  am crying...... You are on a higher dose than me....  Just keep an eye on your emotions.... I know I feel like a looney toon at times....  Just keep smiling !!!  :-)

WOW!  Thank you SO much for your reply.  I thought I might be blowing things out of proportion or just plain crazy.  My nuero says my seizures are caused by fatigue so to get plenty of sleep, which I do, about ten hours a night (on average).  But I still feel tired all the time!
 
And yes the Keppra is wonderful but ever since they increased my dosage my mood swings have gone form bad to worse.  The other day my boyfriend and I were a movie (a funny one!) and BAM, the tears started flowing.  We had to stop the movie till I calmed down.  I'm so lucky to have an understanding man, who just happens to also be a couselor so he never gets freaked out be these happenings.  But it's even more comforting to hear that it happens to other people too.  I live in a very small community and I've never met anyone else with epilepsy.  Few people really understand it.  Thank you.

I have questioned myself so many times, wondering, if I am crazy or what... But .. I have to say .. All the types of seizure meds I have been on in the past 15 years... It seems Keppra is making me VERY unstable... I have read this over and over.. on different sites... If you get a chance check out different sites and just research your meds... Sometimes it helps... It helps you realize you are NOT alone !!
 
Sleep ... Is a MUST !!  If I dont get my sleep, I can guarantee I will go into the " twilight zone " I also need 8 to 10 hours of sleep, I dont get it, but I need it !!! redface .....
 
Thats great you have an understanding boyfriend, that is so important,... Well I have been with my husband for 20 years now... married almost 17... and he puts up with me... Why I dont know !!! He has supported my decisions from day one...  But your guy is a counselor !! :-) ,... Boy.. I could use one of them !!! :-) ....Actually... I think I have made my husband a counselor.. in his own way !!!

Hi everyone...I just joined today  and have been having some strange happenings that sound similar to this at night. I toss and turn all night and feel like I am having seizures but then wake up and think did I have one or was I dreaming? then it starts all over.....I also just started keppra last week (1000 mg) for CP seiz. also on topomax and tegretol...also have been very tired and very emotional....crying a lot!!!!But have been under a lot lot lot of stress too as hve just gone on med leave and am facing going on disability so am not sure? The past 2 nights have been horrible though and have been exhausted....have found that the Keppra has almost made me hyper at times though and kept me up til 1-2 am then am so tired next day. Should I call neuro about possible night seizure activity do you think? Thanks so much for your help. Am freaking out a bit and a bit worried I am going to have more....also have been having lots of SP's during past 2 days. thanks for help! And good luck to you as well!!

Keppra... WoW.. You know what,... when I first went on it.. I got hyper too !!! I started cleaning my house like a maniac !! Mind you that ended quickly !!! The docs started me at 1000mg... the first couple of days I freaked... I was so out of control... it was too wierd... I was told to lower the dose to 250mg am 250mg pm and slowly  I went up to 750mg a day... and I mean slowly... I also lowered the dose of Zonegran, I was on 300mg of Zonegran, now I am on 200mg... I was losing too much weight... I lost like 40 lbs in a year and a half... the IBS was so bad... I couldnt keep my food in, So I couldnt absorb my meds....
Anyhow.... wierd what you said about getting hyper... I went through the same thing....I have terrible sleeping problems too.... But like I said .... Is it seizure activity... Is it just the meds keeping me up ?? Is it stress ?? It is hard to figure ???  But until last year I had no idea I was having activity in my sleep... So it may be a good thing to look into... It does explain alot of things....
 
Again Kepppra seems to be a scary med... from my research on many sites.... alot of people seem to have good seizure control on this med, but very bad mood swings.... I have had outbursts, like a child, that I would never imagine an adult would act like an idiot... having temper tantrums, crying, anxiety, you name it.... NO.... NO suicidal thoughts.... that is a side affect of Keppra in case you didnt know... Not to scare you... But it should be known.... Because it scared the you know what out of me !!!
 
It cant hurt to call your doctor.... especially if you arent feeling well emotionally.... I look at that kid that just got 30 years for doing what he did to his grandparents.... and I think ... Oh my God... that kid was 12 years old.... he was only on those meds for 3 weeks.... a 12 year old, with raging hormones, being put on medication like that, is able to do anything..... I know being a 38 year old, how I felt being put on meds, feeling out of control at times.... So how can a 12 year old take it...
 
Sorry.... to bring an issue up like that.... the point of bringing it up was..... Just be careful if your emotions are flying...... the Keppra, seems to be doing that to alot of us.... Just tell your boyfriend to keep his eye on you and your behavior patterns... It is important.... especially when you first start a new med.... that is when it can be the worst.....
