well had the ultrasound at last!!

after waiting 14 weeks them losing my letter and then giving me two appointments i finally had my ultrasound today
and what a big fat waste of time , i got there and the woman doin it sed so we r looking for gall stones , and i was like well not as far as i know - the doc had never bothered talling me this , so she did the ultrasound and only looked around where my ribs are- but i dont get any pain there it is all much lower down which i told her and the doctr. so basically i have wasted my time and there time and am no futher forward i am soooo annoyed mad

There is nothing more annyoing than people who don't seem to know what they are doing when it comes to your health.  You almost get your hopes up that this time will be the one they find whats wrong with you and can give you a magic cure or even just some relief - and when they seem incompetent it can be mind numbingly disappointing.

Gosh lilamyx, I saw the title of the post and I got so excited for you. But then I read it and my heart goes out to you cause you are back at square one. Did you call your doctor immediately? I would do that and tell him that you refuse to wait another 14 weeks for a mistake that wasn't your fault. Explain to him that you tried to explain this to the ultrasound technician and she still didn't check in the area where you are having problems. Geez... I am so annoyed at them!!!... So sorry hun

I'm so sorry. What a disappointment. I agree with Des, call your doc and tell them everyone's time was wasted and you can't afford to wait any longer. This just sucks. Please let us know what your next step is.

i am gonna make an appointment for in 10 days when he has the results and go and see him face to face and cry if i have to, i didnt even know i was being checked for gall stones - i am 18 y cant he just tell me

and if he tries sending me for endoscopies or whatevewr else i am gonna refuse at least until he sends me for an ultrasound of the right area and i am not waiting 14 weeks again

when i told the woman where the pain was shesed its probably ur bowels then and i was like well i could have told you that 3 months ago!!!

I know you don't want to hear this... BUT you probably should do the scopes. An ultrasound doesn't tell you much about the bowels. Only a colonoscopy can tell your doctor what is going on there (or maybe an SBFT can too).

i know i should but i would never be able to have a colonoscopy my mam has them and just the thought makes me physically sick i am a right big woose for the min the pain i get is bareable and until it gets to a stage where it is completely unbearable i will never be able to make myself have a colonoscopy

You have to try thinking of it this way:

  1. You will probably be able to pinpoint exactly what your problem is.
  2. Your mom does it and survives.
  3. It is good/healthy to completely clean out your bowels on occasion.
  4. You may lose weight (this can be good if you feel you are over weight).
  5. You get a lot of reading done (sitting on the pot with a book or magazine is highly recommended).
  6. You will get a day off work/school.
  7. You will probably eventually have to get it done anyway.

I'm sure I forgot some things but just know that it is not that bad.  Think it over.

I just thought of another (#7) and had to add it in.

Lilamyx, I'm sorry you're feeling down about this.  Keep in mind that an abdominal ultrasound is not intended to closely look at the intestines.  A normal abdominal ultrasound on ANYONE is generally located above the bellybutton and focused under the ribcage...so the technician wasn't being negligent in any way.  It is primarily used as a tool to look at the gallbladder, pancreas, and liver.  A colonoscopy is needed to look into the intestines.

dont get me wrong i dont blame the radiographer she was only doing as my pathetic doctor told her to do , i am going to conatct a different surgery and see if another doctor will see me prhaps one that will take me more seriously , and wont treat me like a stupid kid

I had an ultrasound that was a waste of time also.  The woman kept looking up near my ribs and stuff, i said "no it's lower, like towards my uterus"  and she's all "the paper work tells me where to look and it says nothing about looking there"  so she didnt.
 
And let me say, It was an waste of good money too!

It seems that most everyone with IBS goes through MANY tests with unanswered results. IBS is a diagnosis through exclusion; when they can't find what is wrong they label it as IBS. "Sorry, we can't find anything wrong so you must have IBS - deal with it." It is so frustrating.
