Symptoms of myositis include muscle pain and weakness. Treatment includes anti-inflammatory and corticosteroid medications, rest, and physical therapy.
hope that shed a little light on the subject for you ~*yalinda
Thanks for the explanation. Do you know how they diagnose this one?
Hmmm, well this is a new one on me. I am going for PT for lumbar and cervical spine degeneration hopefully to get some range of motion going but this Myositis is new to me. Guess I just add it to the list along with the Multiple Pain Syndrome my gp has diagnosed me with as well as the OA. I wonder if the neurologist and my gp have talked or if the physical therapy place has just picked this out of the list of possibles. Well, I can ask them next week.
By the way anybody try pt for osteoarthritis? It's really causing me some pain and it's not supposed to. Only doing some stretching and posture correction. I am going for 45 minutes at a time have been twice and I am just wiped out after the sessions. Anybody experience improvement?

Confirmed Diagnosis of - Psoriatic Arthritis/Spondylitis/Graves Disease/GERD/Scoliosis/Hiatal Hernia/Graves Disease of the Eyes/Chronic UTIs
Well, I just checked out Myositis and I have not been tested for this nor has a physician diagnosed me with this, not with my knowledge anyway. The neurologist that did the EMG (bilateral all extemeties) said the outcome was normal. I have not had a muscle biopsy and my blood work is all normal I've had: sed rate, a UA, HBV, HCV, Antineutrophil (ANCA), Beta-2 Glycoprotein, Anticaridiolipid Ab, Complement C4, C3, Lupus, HLA B 27, Lyme, CBC, Antinuclear Antibodies, RA Factor, Comp Metabolic Panel, Serum TSH. I have had MRI C-spine, MRI L-spine, MRI-Brain (just for good measure I think or the neuro wanted to make sure I had one). I think that is all the tests I have had.
Maybe the physical therapy place has just made a coding mistake. Which scares me because I don't have a dx for this from a physician so I hope that BCBS doesn't refuse payment for the PT based on possible wrong coding that is an uphill battle trying to get things fixed with them.
Yeah, PT is a drain and I am not doing that much just stretching but my neck is stiff, my low back hurts and everything else is sore.

is the PT place doing any TENS therapy? message? weight lifting/stretching/muscle work? because many times for PT they but myositis as a DX code so treatments are covered. a chiropractor or physical therapist can put myositis in the DX box when sending in for reimbursement through the ins. co. typically for people with fibromyalgia, myositis & fibro can switch-a-roo on the paperwork w/ PT. if there are 2 DX more treatments can be covered.
and most times, if you have OA or Fibro or anything really...one os bound to have sore or inflammed muscles at one time or another.
it's nothing to be worried about, especially if no tests were performed specific for myositis that is of serious nature. myositis is normally benign and the name is thrown around a lot...just like "fatigue". but my thoughts are that they are just using it as a "general" term in conjunction with your OA for coverage. but it woudn't hurt to inquire about it. you do have the right to know.
the best to you.

hi after being away for a sabatticle...only kidding...trying to fight medicare and my former united health care who USED to be my primary which is now my secondary, blah blah blah.....
anyways...i tried the pt thing and it made me feel worse not better, so after 6 weeks of it i gave up, i mean who can afford 30 dollars x '3 week =90 a week anyways?
not meee.
that pt was good though. he tried really hard he did. in fact i thought he knew more about my condition than my reg docs knew.
he was the one who told me that my lumbar was curving to the convex left and he told me he thought i had either AS or Psa..from looking at my xrays! he has been a PT for 25-30 yrs and worked with a dozen or more of the patients that the doc who operated on me, and so he knew how bad of a doc she was, he told me this superior told him not to take any more of dr bl--d's patients b/c they were not responding well to PT when they should have been. it was the technique of the doc that was why and they didnt want to be charged with any wrong doing by the lawyers who sued my old doc.
the up side to all this was i found out so far my old NS who did this to me is now not working anywhere in fl. which is good and means she cant hurt anyone else.
now i was on cymbalta, which did lots to help me but i got hives all over my body from it and had to stop taking it,,,,so now i am back on the zoloft.
am sleeping way to much and depressed as usual. but at least i got my klid back home from overseas where he was in harms way.
so now i sit and wait. hoping to heck that since i got my ssdi and applied for a student loans forgiveness taht it will go through.
i cant work and i cant pay back all that money i borrowed a long time ago. anyone have any stories to tell on student loans and forgivness for being on ssdi?
