I have noticed that when I get a D attack it is usually in the morning. How about all of you? I also noticed that if I sleep in (on purpose - not when I'm late for work) my bowels are more settled. Is anyone else like this? If I can get past breakfast without D I am generally OK for the rest of the day unless I eat something I absolutely shouldn't later on.
Thanks, just wondering when you all feel the worst.

Yeah, I've found my D to be worst in the mornings to early afternoons. This occurs most days. Today, for instance, I was a garden hose until 3 p.m. and now I'm slowing down. If it's a bad episode, though, it could be all night long. I think it's just typical for the bowels to move more in the mornings to rid itself of yesterday's leftovers.
When I get my D days, it usually hits me 30 minutes before my alarm clock goes off. How convenient UGH!! So yes, morning here too. :(

mornings here too, from about 5am to about 2 sometimes 3pm and after that anything that comes out is pretty manageable...
(by that i mean not totally urgent, just poo...)

come to think of it the only time i had D in the evening was my colonoscopy prep....
what would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?

I get it just before or after I wake up in the morning... or straight after eating breakfast.
So as a consequence, I eat breakfast at work...

Though I am kinda stuck in the middle between C and D, mine problems usually occur of a morning as well. And just like you said, if I sleep in they tend to not be as bad. Do you also get naucious? (sp?)
My GI thinks that a lot of my issues are stemming from my over abundance of generated stomache acid during my sleep, but we tried stuff to fix that, and it didn't really help, plus there were some possible bad side affects I didn't want to take chances on.

Mrmagoo,
I get nauseous too.... a lot. I'm so used to it now that I barely even notice unless it's worse than normal.
Have you tried not eating for several hours before bed? That might help with your stomach acid issue. Or, just plain old Tagament or Zantac (or Prilosec OTC)? I noticed that when I started taking Tagament on a regular basis my night and morning heartburn subsided.
Thanks everyone for all your input! :)

I take Nexium a few times a week, Dr. wanted me to lessen the dossage to see if things changed, or if I still needed, plus its expensive, so i try not to take it every day. Eating early actually sometimes makes the nausa much worse, anytime my stomach gets empty, I get nauseous, another reason i haven't lost any weight, Dr. keeps telling me you have to lose weight, but when i have to eat every few hours, its hard to lose weight.
Mine is the worst in the mornings until 10 am, then I may have to go again (more normal) in the afternoon especially if I eat anything. Then, I usually have to go again before I get ready for bed.
That's a decent day. I try to eat just a small amount for breakfast because it makes me nauseous but if I don't eat then thats bad too later on.
I ususally have to go right after I eat breakfast, the gastrocolonic reflex totally flexes me. But, if I have to run as soon as I get out of bed, before I can eat, then I don;t eat breakfast. Once I start going, eating can just make it spaz more.
When I was having my diarrhea episodes, they were always worse in the mornings. I calmed down sometime between lunchtime and the early afternoon. Even now, if I'm going to have a problem, it's going to be in the morning sometime. I usually have on BM before I leave the house for work, but I'll be at work before it gets kicked up--if it's going to kick up.
I wonder if it would help people to get up in the middle of the night and eat a little something? There are only two things that could cause a difference from mornings to afternoons--no food on your stomach for many hours while you sleep and no movement. Of course, it would be hard for a person who has to work to get up at 1 in the morning and eat something and walk around the house a little, then get back in bed, but if it made mornings less bad, it might be worth going to bed earlier and taking a half hour to hour out of the middle of the night to get up and eat something.

Keri, You hit it when you said movement... when we wake up, our whole body wakes up and that seems to be one of the reasons. Our colon starts acting all crazy as it does with us IBSers and because we are more sensitive.

i am between d c and myself as well.. i normally start the morning ( 1:00pm i work late so:P) with a normal bm then i get thr uns after i eat . when u eat it seems to push whatever is in you from b4 out to make room for digestion.. i'll haveing cramping after the d episodes that lasts all day till i fall asleep.. somedays i'll have d for days and then have c for a couple days..im always nauseas and burping and gassy.. i find after you eat to make sure to sit up or walk around for good digestion and yeah again dont eat about 4 hours before bedtime you wont digest well if you do. i find when i lay down if im nauseous its worse so i lay on my side ..i cant remember which side it is that best to lay down on cause i heard one side is easier to digest food ..just try laying on one side for about 20 min if your still feel reflux lay on the other side... some homework for you:P
sorry for a double post i just read another reply... when you sleep your stomach sleep as well so when you wake up boom it wakkes up... one of the ibs question vsother illnesses is when you wake up at night to have a bm all the time there might be something else wrong..
My symptoms are a lot like yours schmoo except I am now heading more than the D road than the C is was at before. I just wanted to say that you hit all my symptoms to a "T" almost and the suggestions you have are really good. BTW... welcome to the IBS forum :)

Mine is definately worse in the morning. I'm usually up by 6:30 and bam about 10 minutes later it all starts. I had a good day this morning though only went to the bathroom once lol. Tomorrow it'll be the complete opposite. Usually its a couple of hours in and out of the bathroom before things settle down. Sometimes I'll have issues early in the afternoon, but my main time is definately morning time.
mine is ONLY in the morning..within 30 minutes of waking, usually going 2-3 times in a couple hours. What a great way to start the day. And yes, if I sleep in I either dont go at all, or my bowels behave. Never have had evening issues...unless we're talking about the *gas* I get....always evening and a great way to end the day. LOL
I always attributed this behavior to the fact that I have more anxiety in the morning. I don't know the reason, but the gastric juices thing sounds good too.

The reason that any type of BM is more active in the morning, is not because your digestive system sleeps at night so it wakes up with you, but much the opposite.
When we sleep our brains settle down into a rhythm, your breathing and heart rate are constant, so there is less monitoring that takes place there, your muscles and tissue are repairing and relaxing, so the energy is put into your digestive system, so it is very actively dealing with anything you have consumed and therefore most people whether they have IBS or not will have the most activity with regards to BM in the morning .
