I have been seeing doctors for depression for twenty years. Right now I am not satified with therapy that my doctor gives me. I want to talk to a lady. My mother was mean to me. Try your local behavorial health center. Mine is associated with a big hospital in the area and they see you even if you cannot pay. For what it's worth my family does not help me either.
It also never hurts to contact local churches, even if you are not attending, they will many times be happy to refer you to programs for low-income families. I found my current therapist through Catholic Charities- and I'm not Catholic :) But they are wonderful and kind folks over here, and helped me out tremendously to get cheap therapy.
Also, I'm told there are "sliding scale" programs through your state/city government that can be accessed and are based upon your income.
