Hi fotoartist,
My finances are also "unhealthy" to say the very least, so I have a little experience with this. I'm fairly certain medicaid is nationwide. Its a program with reduced copay or no copay insurance through state agencies. He'll have to apply in the county he resides in, (if its the same as ours) and the benefits vary from state to state. The state social service agency can also refer him to clinics that are sliding fee if he does not qualify for medicaid. If he has a family dr., he may also be able to help refer him to someone who can assist him.
I know how hard this is without the finances and insurance to back you up. I'm actually being treated by my family practice dr. at the moment because I just recently got my ins. approved. I'm not particularly happy with that situation though.
Good Luck to you and your brother
God Bless
Ellie

HI Ellie1 & fotoartist, I just wanted to say that unfortunately Medicaid is not a nation wide program. It is run and funded by each state but they are given funds by the federal gov. to supply it. You may want to check with the Department of Social Services to see if your state does have a Medicaid program. Even still it can take weeks / months to get approved depending on fiances. If there is a Samaritan Center near by they are really good with helping paying for medications, food, rent and electric bills. Social Services also should have a list of outpatient mental health agencies that can help your brother. Good luck!!!
Hi Ellie1 and els! Thanks so much. This gives me a starting point. I will do some searching on the internet. Good luck to you both too!
