Hey there, I usually post in the Crohn's forum but had a question for you guys. I assume many of you are on Zoloft and/or have withdrawn from Zoloft at some point. I was on 100 mg/day for about two years and about six weeks ago went down to 50 mg. My doctor thinks the Zoloft could be contributing to my diarrhea and would like to see me go off it completely. I went cold-turkey for about five days and by the 4-5th day noticed extreme lightheadedness and dizziness. A very miserable feeling. I had experienced this in the past if I'd forgotten to take the medication for a couple of days and so know it's related to the withdrawal...so I started taking 25 mg/day and so far, so good. How long do these symptoms last, and should I just push through, or keep tapering very slowly? For how long should I keep taking 25 mg, and should I expect similar withdrawal symptoms when I go to 0 mg?

I have tapered off of zoloft (although i wasn't taking 100 mg).
If you are down to one pill a day . . . you can spit it (as long it isn't an extended release tablet). Start taking 1/2 each day for a few days and then take one e/o/d for a few days and then you go off completely. If the pill is large enough to split twice, you could taper down to 1/4 tablet each day and then 1/14 tablet e/o/d.

Make sure that your doc prescribes a new anti-d if you are experiencing any depression. This is a rough time of the year to go off of your anti-d.

I am back on Zoloft but however I have gone off of it before. When I was on 150mg the last time, the doctor had me taper down every 25 mg for 4 weeks at a time. It took a long time but I did really well from withdrawing from it with very little effects.

I would like to mention something regarding the antidepressant I was on as well. "Lexapro", I did notice some bowel spasms with diarrhea too. I have weaned myself off of the medication just for that reason. But hey, Lexapro worked great for me. I was told that it is a placebo type anti-depressant to celebrex or something like that. They took the celebrex (sister med) and took out the ingredients that caused the symptoms, such as, feeling like a zombie, nausea, etc.
When I had some major trauma in my life, I know I had tried about 10 different anti-depressants to help with my crying spells, roller coaster feelings...and they all made me sick to my stomach as well as feel like a zombie.
Have you tried this med?
