Well I had a grandmal seizure night before last.... I have complex partial's usually and @every 3 to 6 months I have a bug one. Well I am still waiting for ins to approve the 5 day test, in themean time I am upped again on my meds. Now I am on 300mg. Lamictal and 2500mg of keppra a day. So I am out of it most of the time, seem to always be spacey. My husband took my car keys away just to make sure I don't drive. No dmv has not done that for @ 3 yrs. I went to the hospital @ 3yrs ago by ambulance and dmv suspened my license, but I had some test's and got it back and all the docs justsay it's not a good idea to drive, so this last one was so weird it scared me!!! Pissedmy husband off, because he said he would rather me pass out and not remember anything than to be awake the whole time. which is what happened the other night. It was like my meds were trying to fight it, my brain was trying to control it but my body was doing something diffrent.....It  was so scarry!!! I cried for a while and felt sick to my stomach and had a migraine for @ 3 hrs. But today I am doing ok, just boared. I just want this to all go away!!!!! Anyway I just needed to vent, thank you for being here!!!!

Bummer!!!  Your body will be exhausted from the grandmal and you're probably stressed out to the max! as well.  You need to relax big time!  If you don't feel better soon then don't hesitate to call your neuro to report your symptoms.  That's what they are  there for.  I agree about the driving.  You don't want anything to happen.  It sucks to not be able to drive..  I haven't for almost 3 yrs ...  and I know what you mean... but hang in there... don't forget to take care of yourself and eat properly.  You don't want to get low blood sugar on top of all the fatigue too!   ((((((BIG  HUG)))))))    :-)   :-)   :-)   :-)      Glenda

Sounds like an awful time. I sure hope things settle down soon and you feel better with some rest.....

I am ok so far today, thanks for the concern!!! It is great having you all here. I just have a lot of headaches lately and feel so out of it on these meds. I am just more spacey than usual. Definately to spacey to drive...lol

Any way, I am still here and still waiting for ins to ok the 5 day test. I will keep you posted.

Michelle - good luck with the insurance and the 5 day test!  I hope you're feeling better.  I hope your family understands the stresses your body goes through and doesn't add to your emotional stresses.

i am new to this site and recently diagnosed.  about a month ago i had a seizure and crashed my car, i too went to the hospital by ambulance and had my license suspended.  i am dealing with everything, mostly pretty well i think considering how everything just changed for me over night...
 
but the driving thing is making me the craziest right now.  we are still working out my meds, etc. but i am wondering how long it typically takes before the doctor will approve you to drive again.  i feel like a kid again and so dependent on everyone to get me everywhere, so much of my independece and spontaneity are gone because of this.
 
anyway just wondering how other people have dealt with this and if there  are any tips to help speed up the process (i have not had another seizure since the accident).  thanks.

I, too, am not able to drive.  I have not driven for almost 3 yrs.  My neuro says He won't allow me to drive until I can go for 6 months seizure - free.  It depends in where you are from and also your doctor.  I depend on my family for transportation and doing it the old fashioned way - I walk or ride my bike.  We used to live in the country, but due losing my job and drivers license, we actually sold our house and moved into the city so I could be closer to "civilization". 

The truth is,  if you drive when you are not supposed to, and you have an accident, even if the accident isn't related to your epilepsy, you could be in serious trouble.  The law (and insurance companies) isn't too kind to people with restricted licenses.  If I'm wrong, someone please tell me.

You have to do everything in your power to get your seizures under control as soon as possible, as soon as you do, the sooner you can get your license back.  Make sure you work closely with your doctor to ensure this happens.

Hi Michelle, I hope you feel better soon. I had seziures for over 28 yrs, and I can relate to what you are saying. I couldn't drive for about 2 1/2 years, it was rough I didn't have alot of support. I live out in the country so it was not easy. I know longer have seizures, but I am still on 200mg lamictal. loosing my freedom was the hardest thing for me, now that I can drive again I do not take it for granted, everytime I get in the car to drive, I thank God, my faith is strong and it keeps me going. I will remember you in prayer.

I hate medical ...... I called the doc in s.f that is going to do the test, and she said they got a letter from medical denying the test because they need more test done...???? I was like what the h.. are theytalking about??? So I did some calling and they still wouldnt give me any info. So I just got a number for the docter to call. Now they sent in the request form again and we will wait. Until then my quality of life is just weird.... The meds make my seizures really weird, and I am just so not caring.... I dont know, I am trying to get on with things I just want to get off meds and if there is a chance of that I am finally willing and able to accept what I have to do to get there, you know? My family is very supporting, but sometimes I just want to be "normal"...lol if there is such a thing....lol

I also deal with a permanent ileostomy due to colitis and arthritisdue to years of meds for colitis.... so i just want my life back.....

I know I just complained alot, please be patient with me god is'nt finished with me yet.....

So frustrating!!!  Waiting seems like forever (well, it practically it) and here you are not feeling good to boot.  And you are trying to have such a good attitude on top of everything.  On the hug-o-meter, I'd say you need a 10!!!    If you think things aren't going fast enough with the insurance, it doesn't hurt to call them again (and again and again and again).  If your doctor needs to bug them, maybe they can bug them too.  Sometimes, it just takes a firm hand ( or fist).
