Hi Jaymay,
I am new to the chat room and I am pleased to hear that you have managed to get off Zoloft.
I am in my first stage of getting of this crazy drug that the doctors have put me on.
I know I probably needed it at the time but they never told me how hard it would be to get off it.
Did you have many side effects and how long did they last.
Many thanks if you can help.

Haven't heard from anyone lately, hope your all doing fine. We went to another doc yesterday and he told my duaghter that zoloft did not cause her weight gain, the depression did.
Just want to wish you all a Happy Easter and hope that rabbit is good to you all!
Please don't loose touch! Snickers mom how are you doing, we haven't heard from you in awhile!!
here is also another website that may be more crediable, WEBMD. They put out an article a while ago titled
Is your medicine cabinet making you fat?

Also i had my nutritionist do some research for me and she actually found some info in her text book from school. in the book it sates that zoloft not only causes a lot of water retention, but it also tends to reduce thyroid function, which is a main hormone to regulate metabolism. in the articles listed above it is mentioned that the cause of weight is because the metabolism slows. Everywhere i look it seems to give the same explanation. as far as how long it will take to lose the weight, apparently it depends on several factors such as how long the drug was taken and age. Also mentioned that it takes the body and the hormones about 1 year just to return to normal levels.
i do believe in the information i just shared. i remember that i was taking welbutrin and celexa a long time ago and gianed 20 lbs. it took about a year or a little more for me to return to my regular weight.
i do believe that exercise and dieting helps the process move a little faster but not much. once the body regulates itself again the weight will come off just as fast as it seemed to come on. i have been through this before. everyone just needs to hang in there. i am not trying to play doctor or anything and i am giving this information based on my own personal experience and the information that i have gathered and that was gathered and given to me.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!!!

I've been on Zoloft for over 9 months. I haven't gained any weight, yet. But, I did want to pass along some info. Because of all the warnings about weight gain, ( my doctor told me most of his patients have gained an average of 30 pounds) I weigh myself everyday and pay a lot of attention to what I eat.
One day I ate cereal, pizza and a cheeseburger. second day an equal amount of junk food. After two days I gained 4 pounds. I then ate the same foods adding lettuce with pizza. and other sources of roughage, fruits and water, as I ate the other stuff. 2 days later I lost those 4 pounds. I'm not advocating junk food, it was an experiment. I would guess if I continued to eat that way I would have gained 20 pounds in 2 weeks.
I spoke to a nutritionist about this and she told me it was because Zoloft slows the metabolisim so much that it took 2 days to actulay digest the food. She told me it didn't matter whether it was pizza or something healthy. I still would have gained weight. She said the key is to eat certain foods with others to help digest food quicker. If Zoloft is working great for your depression, my advice would be to see a nutritionist before going off Zoloft.
Im not losing any weight at all im still the same ...why ?
and debbiehall do you work for zoloft or something
