hehe yeah people pay lots to get detoxed and cleansed like that, so I suppose paying all that money has more than one advantage! You must feel a hell of a lot lighter after it all! I wonder if I will lose weight though ... since having the D for the last few months I've lost weight, and I'm 178cm 55kg so losing weight makes me sook quite scary/bag'abones.
THANK GOODNESS we live in a townhouse with two toilets! One is upstairs and one is downstairs, so I think I'll just 'have' the upstairs level on sunday, its hot up here but I'll put the fan on. That way I'll have my space during the emptying process!
Good idea, Phoebe. I too live in a townhouse and was able to do the same thing.
Yup, you do feel a whole hell of a lot lighter after everything. Not to mention that you starve too, so that contributes.

Hi phoebe,
I know your posts are from a long time ago, but i was looking up stuff on the internet, kind of how you did at the beginning of your situation, because I have been experiencing the same type of thing...blood every time I have a BM and lots of it and it is starting to freak me out! My boyfriend, like yours, is very supportive and has told me to make an appointment ASAP so I am going to. I am in the military so fortunately I wont have to pay out of pocket for the help like you and your family had to. I am grateful for that much. ANyways, what I am getting to is I read your initial post and the responses after that and I couldn't stop. Everyone was so helpful and kind to you and your story was so similar to what I am currently experiencing. (although I am 31 LOL) So I just wanted to first of all say thank you for indirectly helping me and thank you to everyone who posted in this thread as well...I now feel a little less nervous about making the appointment, although I must say if I am told I need a colonoscopy that you have all already scared me a little with the prep stories! haha... I hope you are well. I was sad that the posts stopped before you went for your appointment, and although I don't know you or you me, I found/find myself really hoping that you are healthy and safe and that things all worked out well for you. I hope you are able tos ee my post and respond :) Thanks again from North Carolina (my home away from home for now...home is Texas) -God Bless

Hi NavyGirl80-
I read your post today and want to tell you that the prep for a colonoscopy is really not so bad. I've had 3 and have learned a few tricks to make the prep less uncomfortable. First, follow the directions given by your doctor. I know they've come up with some newer prep formulations so you may not have to drink a whole gallon of liquid.
But, even if you do, just plan to settle down at home for the duration with a good book or whatever. One of the problems I experienced the first time was the the rectum gets sore (burning) after so many bowel movements. If you use petroleum jelly generously (even putting some up inside), it will coat the opening so it will not burn.
I drank a lot of white cranberry juice because I like it. Your doctor's directions should tell you what they want you to drink and when to stop before the procedure.
You definitely need someone to drive you and be there to get instructions when your doctor speaks to you after the procedure. Because of the medication used, you may "drift" in and out of consciousness during the process. One time I totally forgot everything that was said afterwards (very like amnesia). When I had one a few months ago, I remembered everything so they might have changed the medication that was used. After the process, I spend the rest of the day at home just hanging out.
Another thing you should be aware of is that you probably need iron to combat anemia from the blood loss. There are a lot of different types of iron pills, slow-acting, fast acting, etc. I have less problems if I take a multi-vitamin with iron and eat raisins.
I hope this is helpful. I, too, wondered what happened with Phoebe.

I am in my 50's and just got diagnosed with acute ulcerative colitis on 11/28. I also have diverticulosis. I too had rectal bleeding, pain and generally feeling crappy. The colonoscopy is what you need to make a definitive dx. Yes blood is scary, but there are so many causes other than cancer. I am now on metamucil, Lialda 1.2 GM twice a day and Canasa suppositories. Some days I feel great and other days not so great, with some pain and mild bleeding. Still trying to figure out my triggers. I have given up my caffeine free diet Coke and all artificial sweeteners, plus alcohol.
Can any one comment on how long it takes for symptoms to develop after eating a trigger food???

I've just started having blood in my stool. The blood isn't severely dark and my bowels are still brown, which means no dark stool or anything.
I've also been having a low grade fever, the highest it has gotten was maybe about 100.
I also have chills and a low appetite. I make myself eat a little each day. I don't have any unusual pain or anything. I do have excessive belching. Can you please help me!!!

Whitneygrace, hello and welcome to this forum. Please get yourself to see the doctor as soon as possible! As you can see, blood in the stool can be a lot of things, ranging from hemmorhoids, anal fissure, but it can also be serious things like diverticulitis, colitis or whatnot, this is especially important since you have a fever and no appetite. Please get this checked out!! Ruth
Hi all,
Just found this forum while searching online.
I have the exact same symptoms as Phoebe. I'm 33 years old, male, overweight who used to smoke quite a bit, have quit for a couple of weeks now.
I have 39% bodyfat and weight 265 lbs and was recently told to lose weight as my bloodwork was not good and i had high blood pressure and high uric acid.
I have had an anal fistula removed in the past, maybe 10 years ago. and ever since that surgery i have always been scared of anything related to digestion, or pain while pooping etc.
Also i used to take iboprufin one or twice a week for headaches as no other medicine used to help me. ive heard nsaids can thin blood and cause this.
I too am scared of getting any tests done as I too like pheobe looked up my symptoms online and kept running into the C word. I have noticed the bleeding has gotten less frequent since I started regular cardio 6 days a week.
Also, any time i eat too much I get this blood in stool for sure. i have been an over eater most of my life. i love pizza and now, almost everytime i have pizza I end up eating one slice too many and get blood in my stool the next day.
my wife is worried too and is pushing me to get an appointment with a gaestrointestianal doctor. ill get the appointment today. feeling scared.
Phoebe if you read this, can you let me know what happened with you. have you healed? how had life been afterwards.
thanks
