Hi Brett,
I haven't had surgery but my doc warns that if I get a bad case of diverticulitis again(had two bouts), I need to seriously consider it. I took Imodium for years, about ten years I think and almost on a consistent basis. Again, I don't want to scare you in to thinking that Imodium causes that, that is my doctor's theory but it made enough sense for me to believe but I understand its debatable. Hmm, how long have I had diverticulosis, well if I tell you that, I give away my age don't I? j/k I have had it for 3 years and yes I am 30 (although I consider myself very young, many on here are much younger than I am :( LOL

Wow, That's really young to have that happen to you. I remember 30. The good old days. Lets pray that you don't have any more bouts.
By the way, I finally got my records from my old gastro doc and was looking things over... My colonscopy from this past June shows no damage so I guess thats a good thing.

Hi Lil, I don't know why I back, I'll still sign the bottom though.
My new doc said a few interesting things, though no diagnosis yet until I do a few more tests, But after reading my records feels I may have IBD going on. I have to give some blood, but connot go to quest diagnostics as he said they don't know what they're reading half the time.
Interesting thing about the stool sample that he ordered... NO red meat for 2 days before giving the sample, as it shows a false positive for blood sometimes. But he did say to load up on the Fatty foods, like pork fat etc... This is to check for crohns.
He also said that people who have pain all the time is more likely to be IBD and people who's pain goes away shortly after a D episode is a sign of IBS.
My pain is 24 hours a day so he put me back on Entocort. I took that back in Jan. and it kept the pain down, but still had the D. He did'nt think I took it long enough to allow it get through my system.
He also put me on Xanax for panic attacks and anxiety. I told him my old doc had me try wellbuturin and lexipro and he said thats for people who are depressed, not for panic attacks.
I go back dec. 8th to get a cat scan and an ultrasound . He wants to check my bile ducts, pancreas and gallbladder and the outsides of my colon and intestines.
I have to say I am impressed so far and wish I would have gone to a university back in 1993. He talked about sooo much more but I can't remember it all right now, but everything he said made sense. Bottom line is he sounds like he really knows his crap.LOL Pun Intended

Brett, sounds like you have a great doc.... very thorough. Interesting what he said about red meat and the stool sample. Mine never told me that. I'm sorry about your diagnosis heading towards IBD; I had no idea about the pain factor. I truly hope Entocort works for you. If I remember correctly I think I've seen Crohnies talk about it (but I don't think I've seen IBSers). I'm also glad to hear you got the correct med for your panic attacks... that is very important.
Going back to your stool sample.... Is your doc saying they can check for Crohn's that way (or am I reading your post out of context?)?
As for Quest Diagnositics.... If they can't help you then did your doc mention Prometheus Labs?

Hi 7Lil, You got it, my bloodwork is going to Prometheus Labs. You got me thinking about the stool sample because we talked about so much, I may not be right on that. The no red meat thing might be for the bloodwork, but it is for a crohns test. I am so glad that you asked me this question, as if I'm wrong I may not be preparing correctly for my tests. Thank You. I will call him some time today and make sure I have that part right.
But either way, My old doc never told me anything along these lines... Catch your poop in this bag or don't eat anything after midnight for blood work... or try this med... I feel like I have a direction now and more importantly, I feel better informed.
I'll post back whatever he says later on today.

Hi Brett,
Glad I was able to jar your mind a bit. 
I've noticed that sometimes it helps your brain to process when you discuss things.
Man I hate those stool tests. My doc never told me any technique, all she said was "Here, take this little cup and bring me back some poo. Do you think you can go now?" NO! I was in total shock. It took me a couple days to finally get the nerve to attemp my poo catching, and then another couple days to get over the trauma of that. I wish you better luck.
As for Prometheus... they are good. I got my IBD, Lactose & Celiac tests done from them.
Keep us posted on how you are doing and what is going on with your tests.
