new> but can you ladies share your stories of heart disease.

sad  I AM SORRY TO HEAR YOUR APPT WITH THE GASTRO WAS A BUST. BUT I AM NOT SURPRISED AS THEY REALLY DO NOT KNOW about HEART HEALTH THAT MUCH.  MUM, JUST TELL YOUR GP YOU WANT TO SEE A CARDIOLOGIST. YOU MUST HAVE SO SO INSURANCE, OR YOU COULD JUST MAKE YOUR OWN APPOINTMENT, YOU WOULD THINK WITH ALL THE DOUGH IT COSTS FOR MEDICAL INSURANCE YOU COULD JUST GO WHERE YOU NEED TO. HOPE TO SEE YOU TONITE ON THE CHAT, I WILL BE THERE FOR A LITTLE WHILE. BYE FOR NOW.

I can just go where I want. I don't need a referal as far as I know.  Yes I could go get checked out, but somehow I have a feeling with the way things are going lately with doctors, they would make me have a referal.  But I can try.  But I will ask for someone who deals with auto immune diseases and make sure its a woman who is caring.

Thanks.  I really am not ruling out heart. with still feeling so bad, I know how my mom and sister felt when they had heart problems.  At least my sister said her arms ached and never knew it was a symptom of women having heart problems. along with nausea and sweating. But my stomach is killing me. I can't seem to get that pain under control even taking two vicacin at 500 mg each.

just have a heaviness in my chest all the time like I am weighted down.  And am tired all the time.  I will be glad to see the rheumetologist on thursday and see what she says.  the prednisone isn't taking the discomfort away. That makes me think there is something else going on and maybe; heart related.  And I have my endo on Thursday afternoon.  So we'll see what happens.  a male friend at church has only 19 % of his heart working and they are making him wait till july to get a defribulator in.  don't know why they make people wait like that when they know they have such weak hearts.

:-)  geez mum, if your chest pain is that bad that sounds really frightening, all i can offer is a prayer up for you tonite.  please post after your dr. visit on thursday. i will be out of town til sunday evening we are goiong on a harley road trip.  i missed you at the chat room last evening, sorry you did not make it . bye for now
Thanks, I am going to get the heart thing checked out. I am tired of them playing with my life. I was wondering if a heavy feeling in the left side of the chest is a symptom of anyone else. I know heart problems aren't alway cut and dry. There can be some other things other then a clogged artery to give pain and discomfort. some of these doctors make it sound like if the symptom isn't what is in the book for a normal problem then you don't have a problem

And I was just thinking the other day about talking to my husband about getting a cycle. I know he would enjoy it and I just think we need to do some fun things. Our 4x4 is almost paid, 4 more months. Although we did get a sleep number bed to see if that would help some of our problems with aches and things. didn't me. but after that is paid for, we could get a bike. He used to use his brothers when we were young. we know of some people who have them, might be fun.

have a great time on your trip. it's time for us to get away again too. hope it doesn't rain for you. And yes I will post on the heart forum and the gastro and the lupus.

Hi,
I get severe pain in my breasts and my upper chest, ribs in ubder my breast and my stomach, both sides, it radiates to the underarm, my neck and shouders. I went to my DR. with the pain, she did a ekg, bloodwork and echo everything was fine. She started palpataing my chest and I was screaming in pain, she said I have costochondritis (chest wall pain).I went to the ER one evening with the pain, it was so bad. Did not tell the ER Dr. I had costo or fm until she checked me out thougherly and she dxed costro also. Plus I have fibrocystic breast disease. No fun at all. My Dr. told me with any chest pain if you press around and find spots that hurt like crazy it is muscular or the costro not heart. I sure hope she is right.

Good luck, Linda

Hello Deb..i am new here and was reading your symptoms..i guess you are in the united states i am in Canada but health is health...When i was 29 i was rushed to hospital with severe palputations my heart was comming out of my chest and i couldn't breath etc..no pain per say just burning in my upper chest and throat..i had all kinds of tests done and told it was normal for some people..my father died of a masive coronary as did his parents and siblings.my dad was 48..so of course i thought i was a goner..i was sent home time after time..they would get it under control and send me home..told to loose weight i was only 30 pounds overweight but i said i can't i have no energy im always tired and my heart goes crazy going up a flight of stairs..five years later i was put on Blood pressure meds well that didn't help my symptoms eigther..then June 13 2004,,i had a stroke..i have total right sided weakness i can still function well but it was a difficult haul..i have short term memory also..guess what almost 2 years later i still have the same symptoms...I had to tell my doctor i want to see a cardiologist she told me to wait and i said no more make the referal or ill go to the board..she did and my cardiologist is doing what he can..but the last type of meds i can take aren't working so i go on Monday to see him and im sure they will schedule me for surgery (ablation) and hopefully finaly take these symptoms away...its very hard to feel so bad all the time and i feel for you...demand to see a cardiologist ..those stress tests to me anyway are worthless cause they said i was good to go and then i had a stroke..be careful with exercise as it raises your heart rate and you could pass out..also go online and check out Attrial fibrulation thats what ive had for almost 15 years it will give you some insight into symptoms etc.. when the fluttering comes on lay down take deep breaths through your nose out your mouth and don't concentrate on the palputations just think of something like relaxing in a bubble bath..or laying on the beach etc...your heart rate will slow down ...then rest for about 15 minutes or so longer if need be and when they have stopped get up but you will be tired so take it easy..I had to get mad to get help..we have to be our own doctors and don't ask demand to go to see a cardiologist...have you asked your doctor for a holter monitor..they hook it up to you and it has a tape recorder and when you feel the heart go eratic you press a button and right down how your feeling what you were doing? example went to pee..went upstairs from a resting position etc..that will help you get a referall or i don't know how it works down there but the cardiologist can get this info from your doctor..i have one on again till tomorow before i go back to see my cardiologist on Monday and like i needed it hahahha it always does the same thing afib afib hahahh oh thats attrial fibrulation the short form...It took a long time for it to give me a stroke but it did...hope i am not scaring you i just want you to be informed and insist on the help you deserve..If you have anymore questions etc..you can email me at linkin_momma2003@hotmail.com...hope this helps and i truly hope you feel better soon...i will say a prayer for you and all out there who aren't being taken care of as they should be..but once again take your life into your own hands only you can do it...Take Care...Therese
Hello again Deb hahhaha..im so sorry i forgot a few things to help you out...like i said i have short term memory so things come to me after ive rested a bit...ok here we go...what i would suggest you do is keep a journal of everyday good or bad...write down the time..what your doing..how your feeling example..short of breath..light headed..how long the episode lasted. what exactly is happening..chest pains or burning or cramping and where...its very important in order for you to get a referall..or to make an appointment yourself down here we need a referral but im not sure where you are??If you smoke quit it raises your heart rate..drink cafeine free pop and coffee and tea etc..this also raises your heart levels very much..have your potasium levels cheked,,that can lower your blood pressure but won't stop the palputations..i don't know how your digestive track is but ive had diarhea for over 7 years staight and i had to spend the night in hospital for potasium lacking...also eat a banana everyday it realy helps...also go online and do a check of all the meds you may be on and see if one is acting negetavely on the other..oh geez theres something else just a minute i need to think....oh yah ..watch what over the counter meds you take for example for colds there are some ingredients that intensify heart palps..I was told recently that as soon as they knew i had afib i should have been put on 81mg of asa a day its one tablet a day it would have thinned my blood enough to not have had a stroke that may be an opsion..but im on blood thinners so i no longer take that..lol im laughing cause you said you werent a hypocondriac my dear how many times have i felt that way about myself im 43 and had a kinked bowel then after my daughter was born i became allergic to the sun..then i had my gallbladder removed..then my tonsils gone..then attrial fibrulation then ibs then diarhea for 7 years  then a stroke and now i probably have crohn's lol man if you feel bad dont we are women and have alot go wrong with us we just need to educate ourselves and our symptoms then make the docs listen...i wish you well....Therese

Thanks Shady Lady

I am six years older then you, but I was feeling like it's all in my head because of the doctors.  And did you know lupus is a symptom of sun sensitivity?  You may want to get that checked out for yourself.  Check out the lupus forum. they are a great bunch of people on there.  I have some kind of auto immune diseae, they just are taking their good ole time with it.

Anyway, my mom an sister have a history of heart problems.  I don't know if I wrote on the post about them.  But since I have my mothers tendancies and my sister was in her forties when she had her stroke, then a 5 bypass early fifties.  Now she has kidney cancer.  But she smoked and drank and had a tough life.  I do not smoke nor does my husband.  But I have asthma and I was feeling like my asthma was getting worse.  I still am short of breath if I climb stairs and walk uphill.  I even feel so full after eating just a little.  I do not have to have a referal, I can just call myself to set up an appt.

I just think there should be something to do to make this all better.  I know my sister said she felt better and so did my mom after their bypasses.  And my hands and feet are swelling up a bit again.  Everytime I have chest pain it happens.   I have pain from my chest into my back most of the time.  The family doctor told me it's muscles and I just need some good therapy, well I did have therapy for it and it did not get better.  But then he said I need more. HA.

the only meds I am on are prevacid and hydrocodone when I need it.  I started taking some herbal things,, I just got so very tired of dealing with doctors.  ya see them, then wait for a month to go back for results, then you try a medication and then you wait 4-6 weeks to go back, then more tests and then you wait.  No wonder the ladies on the lupus forum said it took years to get a DX.

Then I felt it's all because of hormones, I am in perimenopause.  But the gals on the lupus forum said they didn't think its that, but one never knows.  I do have to make an appt. with the cardio doc.  I told the family doc I did not want to go to the one who did the stress test.  Even the family doc said that he had patients who had a stress by him and had a heart attack that night or days weeks later after he told them the stress test was negative.  The one guy even died of a heart attack the same night he was told nothing is wrong.  so yeah those stress tests are worthless.   I just am really tired of going through life like this.  Not much quality of life.  And I can't enjoy things.

I just hate spending money on copays and then tests and not getting anywhere.  I just know sometimes my stomach feels like my my heart is beating in it.

I forgot to tell you too.  I do not take the cold meds.  I found out that it raises my blood pressure.  So I stay away from them.  I have cut back on my Dr. Pepper.  I am not a coffee drinker. But althought coffee is supposed to help asthma.  I really am hoping the glucosamine, chondroitin with MSM will help my pain throughout my body.  But as for the heart, well I have to call for some herbs.  hawthornberry with capsicum is supposed to help.  I use some hawthronberry syrup under the tongue and it helps to take away pain.  I have been on meds for so many years, meaning antibiotics and this is what caused all my problems.  With all that I read about things, I am almost sure it was the antibiotics.  I had sinus problems for many years and the ENT and family doc just kept putting me on them.  I tried the herbs and cleaned out my body as best as I could.  But I think the antibiotics got into my muslces and it's hard to get it out.  The reason I say this is, when my mother had her heart surgery 8 years ago, she had a hard time waking up. the surgeon said that the anesthesia went into her muscles since she is a larger person and it's having a hard time working out and will sleep more.  Made sense to me at the time and I remembered it and said this to the herb guy and he said the same thing.  toxins get into the muscles and it has to work out.  I was told I should to a complete cleanse. But they cost around $300 and ya have to go to another state to do them.  I can't afford it. I would be all for it if I could.

Like I said, I am only on prevacid right now and my inhalers for asthma, which the inhalers could cause problems too since it gets into the lungs.  And since I am not on very much medication, I will try the herbs and see.  My husband is on the glucoamine/condroitin msm and he said after two months he feels less tired at the end of the day and less achy.  So I have nothing to loose.

Hello,
I recently had a minor heart attack in January. Since that time I am being treated with Toprol, Plavix, Isosobide, baby aspirin everyday, I also take 75 mg of Snythroid. I have resumed exercise and recently found out my blood plalets aren't they way they should be. I have been placed on a Niacin treatment, starting with 500mg ending up in several months with 2000 mg. Suppose to lower my cholesterol and raise the good. I have had very little side effects from the niacin to this point, but recently was told I need a colonoscopy. I have to stop the aspirin and Plavix 5 days prior and quite frankly I am worried stiff about the pre cleaning of the colon and then the procedure. Thoughts?
I use no caffeine, drink some wine, don't smoke, exercise everyday, eat well, but I just don't seem to feel like I used too.

I am 49 but know how my sister and mother felt before their heart attacks and it's scary. but I have to be the one to beg for things to be done.  Just don't know why doctors are dragging their feet and they say they are doctors.  The dictionary must have changed the meaning.

I have a long story, but today was at the GYN and she kind of passed me off too. Don't they know we have lives to live.  I am not that old yet that I can just keep going on with pain.  They even treated my elderly parents better then what I am being treated.  the gyn did say that maybe some of my problems would be eliminated if I had a hysterectomy. which I am tending to agree with her.  But she thinks i should see the urologist or a person who is trained in kegal excersizes.  My bladder pushes down but she thinks with excersize it would help. I have been doing these excersizes for years now.  I had three babies, two over nine pounds and one over ten pounds.  I did hear that makes things worse too having such big babies and I am only 5'2".

Well I do hope things work out for you with the niacin med.  I did not know they did that. I may suggest it to my family doc. He would like me to go on lipator and I won't do it.  I have heard too many people have problems and meds don't agree with me.  I get too many reactions.

   good luck.

:-)  hi mum, how have you been lately? i have not been posting much as i do not have one intelligent thing to say.  we had a great trip, but i must admit i am getting older and 8 hrs on a bike is getting a little long for me.we rode from 10 a.m. to 6p.m., long day. the weather was great, we have a couple more long trips this year and then of course the shorter runs within a 100 miles all summer.  be well. let me know the latest.

Well if it was intelligent I may not keep up with it. LOL.  I have too many brain fogs lately.  I would imagine when you say bike, it's cycle?   My brother in law and his wife take trips too, well they did before they got the boat. They have a 45 footer.  We are lucky enough to be invited down and we had the honor of having a small ride last weekend to make sure it works good for their trip they are going on.

I have been trying to hang in there. But someone else said to go see a cardio dr.  I just don't know where to turn to right now.  I was having some more discomfort, actually jagging pains on the left side and I carry an herb with me, hawthornberry syrup it's called, I put it under my tonque and keep it there for a while.  It's for the heart and it actually helps to take away some of the discomfort.  So my husband is thinking too it's heart related.  But the doc who did the stress tests says my heart is fine.  But the same day he did one on one of the family docs patients, that guy had a heart attack that night and died. He was told his heart was fine too, nothing wrong. I think they better get another doctor to do them. It wasn't the first person he gave a thumbs up to.  I just think there is something that would help to take this heavy painful weight off me.  I did gain ten pounds this last year and am a bit over weight, but ten pounds shouldn't have done this.  I know weight can create problems, but I also had this pain a couple of years even before the stress tests.  I was to the ER twice, different ERs, mainly because the first Er doc didn't really care how sick I felt , did a couple of blood tests and a chest x-ray, didn't find anything and sent me home feeling just as bad as when I went in.  The second time they kept me.  But they tried nitro and it didn't help. But they wanted to keep me because they suspected heart problem.  They didn't do any other heart related tests though, just digestive.  so I need to push the family doc. I don't need a referal to see a cardio doc, but I think it helps when ya do.

Take care. good to hear from you.
