i have been breaking out on my shoulders and upper arms, and neck. they are not healing and turn into big bumps with scabs. i take a lot of herbs and vitamins and drink lots of water but i wonder if my skin is emitting the toxins for my liver?
Hi,irishpeper. I also have these bumps & scabs but it is not acne. yes It has to do with the liver & toxins. No they won't ever go away. But looking at & scratching mine 10 years. Not supposed to scratch tho. When the hepatologist told me that one I knew he nevr had them! I have found nothing to help with the itch for them other than the questrin. They stop being sore when we stop scratching.Welcome to HW forum. later....

Hi,

Gene has had good luck using prescription Clotrimazole on his skin irritations and erruptions and it does control the itching and allow healing. Has anyone out there tried this?

I haven't. The one I have brand name Cholestyramine is the choice of Hepatoligists in Toronto Ont. here for liver itch or also known as questrin. The kind of bumps & scabs that i have Just keep getting multiplying. They never go away but the med mentioned here does keep them from getting itchy preventing the scrathing that worsens the soreness & discomfort. Other wise also known as liver spots. later....

I use Triamcinolone Rx cream. I get red eruptions...I never connected it with liver until I just read the above posts. My skin on shoulders and back is also getting like "goose bumps." No longer smooth.

Hi "i" I just re read your first post about the herbs. Why aree you taking them? Did you check with hepatologist to see if they are safe & or suitable for your condition? Please use caution with herbs & your liver. take care.

I agree lerie.  You cannot be too careful.  I was taking a herbal med for menopause before I suffered liver failure in 2004.  Heptologist said it was really bad for me.
Hi marg, Thankyou for sharing this with us. It shows we should always check these herbs out. We only have 1 liver.,so it's not worth the risk! Hugs, later...

hi - just got back into town. thanks for welcome. don't know if you were adressing me about the herbs..am a master herbalist, so am very careful. even though i have an extremely high viral load the doc says keep doing what i'm doing because liver is in great shape
Hi irish keeper ,welcome to the forum. glad to see you here. however if you are a master with herbs then you should know many can be toxic even to a healthy liver & for cirrhosis most are be very fatal!!I take it you do not have cirrhosis. While some herbs can be benificial for many conditions, cirrhosis is a whole other story! Never take herbs other than milk thistle with cirrhosis without consulting a HEPATOLOGIST> Green Tea Is one of the many & biggest No no with cirrhosis. later....

Hi Valerie,
What is in green tea that is so bad? I don't drink much but do have an occasional cuppa. As usual your good advice is taken on board and acted upon.
Marg
Hi Marg, there are several compounds in some herbs. Any Japenese bush teas contain Green Tea. I'm not sure exactly what the ingrediences are but all my GI's in the past & both hepatolologist have told me there are only 3-4 herbs that are tolerable to the liver after it becomes cirrhotic.Milk thistle seems to be recommended highly right across the board. There are so many herbs I lost track of the why's to all of them but apparantly Green Tea can harm even a healthy liver. I'll ask my hepatologist again & get back to you on this one. Ginger is another one . Sorry i can't give you a more informative answer but I simply can't remember . Your Hepatologist will tell you also & will give you the names of the 3-4 you can have. St. Johns wart in small proportion we can have with the understanding there's not been much research on that one. Your Pharmacisist can also give you a lot of info as to why herbs are not safe for cirrhosis.later..

I Just called my pharmacist.... There is a chemical in green Tea That kills liver cells even in healthy livers & causes major death of cells in cirrhotic livers that are already dying.

Lerie, as you know, I don't have cirrhosis but hep C and liver cancer. I had asked my oncologist about green tea and he said it was fine for me. I drink 1-2 cups a day. If you do a Google search for "green tea liver" (without the quotes), there are more studies saying it protects the liver than those that are negative. It seems that in high doses, it is damaging...but I think that's true of most anything. However, with cirrhosis, I would be extremely careful about using any herbs or medicines. I think often times your own body is the best judge. I just know I feel better after having a cup of green tea, whereas coffee gives me heartburn and even tastes bad to me now.

I remember when I was active on the hep C boards, there was a warning about St. John's Wart. Milk Thistle was touted as being good for liver damage, even 12 years ago. I personally knew one lady who cleared hep C using Milk Thistle. I ran into her several years later and she was still virus free. However, I had an unpleasant reaction to the Milk Thistle and didn't pursue it after about a month on it.

Hi connie,Every hepatologist will tell a cirrhotic patient no green Tea. Some studies do reveal green tea can be harmfull to liver because of a chemical found in.I'm not  really surprised your Dr. says Ok but I also know if she were a Hepatoloagist & you did not have cancer & If you had cirrhosis they would tell you no. Studies done here in Canada have shown the dangers of green tea & campaign heavily against it & it is always in the news here. In fact FDA here & in Europe want it banned. It hasn't gotten that far yet tho. St johns wart i don't know about it seems to be contraversy so I avoid it all together. Milk Thistle is heavily recommended . They have found in cirrhosis it slows progression because in cirrhosis it actually plays a large part in helping to rid the body of toxins. It apparantly has a lot of benifits for the liver. from what the hepatologist say about milk thistle & the liver I have no doubt it cleared that person of hepC . they say it has kept me alive longer .Maybe St. johns Wart doesn't have safe values with hep c the same way green tea is harmfull to cirrhosis. But regardless bottom line folks, Ask YOUR HEPATOLOGIST! Always before using anything!!!! They also told me to drink more than 2 cups of coffee per day to help prevent liver cancer. Maybe because you already have cancer it works the opposite of what it would for cirrhosis. apparantly it
green tea is good for liver cancer.?Anyway with my cirrhosis I will definately heed The advice not to use green tea & other herbs because I don't want to progress faster than I already am. My thoughts & prayers are with you all. later.....

Please everyone check everything with your hepatologist before taking anything!

Hello All,

After reading the post my curiousity was up. As most know we did go to a hepatologist today. I had to ask about the Green Tea.  He told me, that in very early stages of cirrhosis, it could be beneficial. He said, if used in moderation, it is good for preventing Liver cancer and is good for those with Liver Cancer and Hep. He did stress the importance of consulting with ones hepatologist before starting any herbal remedies if they are liver patients.  Mark is in the late stages so the Green Tea is not an option or recommended. Love and Prayers to ALL!!

HUGS

P.S. He hasn't lost any hair yet!!!

Love & hugs. later....
