Anxious about Car Repair

Hi I'm Rich, aka Older Guy,

I don't know why car repair always seems so complicated. I guess it doesn't always. Anyway I took my car in to look at battery/starting problem. When I talked to the guy i think he said I need new tires in about 8000 miles. I just had the front tires replaced in March!

I am trying to work up the courage to ask about this when I go to pick the car up. It seems like they are trying to set me up to rip me off.

Feedback encouraged.

Hi Rich, I am sorry that you are struggling with this car repair business! I was using a dealership for several years & every time I took my car in, they always gave me a laundry list of things they said needed to be repaired or replaced. Over time, I just got so stressed just going in for a simple oil change. I finally quit the dealership, found an excellent shop & that knocked out the dealership stress.

If you need a new battery you will need it replaced. As for the tires, where did you buy them? If the tires were bought somewhere else, go back to them & let them inspect your tires. I use a tire place & they take care of just tire issues. You should not need new tires with 8,000 miles. If they are defective, then they should be covered under a warranty.

Stand your ground & if you bought the tires somewhere else go back to them. If they were bought where your car is now, insist they tell you why tires with 8,000 miles need to be replaced & you want it in writing.

You got this, don't let them stress you out.

Hi Susie,

Just talked to the guy. I was mistaken about the tires - they weren't referring to the 2 new front tires, but the back (older tires). It took some assertiveness for me to call him and ask him to go over things with me again, but I did it. So it's not a huge repair bill (-$250) and i have learned my lesson about dealerships - they seem to always be looking for more repair work to do. Will do some contact work with friends and acquaintances for a new repair shop.

Thanks so much for replying and helping me out!

Love, Rich

It really did take courage and motivation to make that call and get the clarifications that you needed!

Well done...and I hope that you are giving yourself the credit you desereve!

Keep up the great work. smile
