I have COPD, mild emphysema and a long history of asthma...just saw my new pulmonologist this morning and he's recommending after some testing today that since I've started the Advair Discus 500/50 within the past few weeks and I'm doing well with it...to just continue with that and of course, I've got my nebulizer if needed!
I won't kid you, I smoked for many years and quit about 4-5 years ago. I'm very lucky that my problems are not worse!
So that's it for med.'s for me-oh, except the Albuterol Inhalor as needed.

Well, after my pulmonologist appt today, my advair got upped to the 500/50. I also have an albuterol inhaler if I need it. I also keep a prescription of prednisone at home if the albuterol doesn't help. Going to the ER with an asthma attack is no fun! I'm hoping the new level of advair will help to prevent this from happening again.

I take the Advair 250/50 twice a day, Singulair daily, Combivent and Alburterol inhalers as needed. When it is bad Doc will give me breathing treatments, steriod shot and/or Prednisone.

Lil, since I've been on this 500/50 Advair, I've been doing great! It's keeping my lung troubles to a minimum for now - thank goodness! So I hope it helps you out as well! :)
Tee, or Lil, do you have nebulizers (breathing treatment machines of your own at home)? I never used to, but many years ago, I did get one, by prescription, and both my daughter and I have had to use it at home. For the past few years, though, I, too have been getting the injections of steroids and the oral Prednisone.
I do want to warn you and others about these steroids...
Your immune response is lowered and your resistance to other illnesses goes down, so you need to take care around others that are ill. If you are diabetic, this medication can alter blood (sugar) levels and perhaps increase them. Ask your Dr.'s re the side effects of steroids/injections and bone loss and the possibilities of osteoporosis and hip necrosis.

No, I don't have a home nebulizer. My uncle did suggest getting one. I may talk to my doc about this when I see him next month. I want to see how well the 500/50 works.

An at home nebulizer is something that someone like yourself could probably use! - if you have mod. to severe asthma and can't get into your Dr. right away, or have a problem in the middle of the night? I can't tell you how many times, it saved me from the ER. Let me know what happens!!

hi. i have just put a new toic on and cant seem to find it on the list, i hope you can help me. i just been diagnosed with moderatde c.o.p.d, and have been given seretide 125 evohaler. i've not seen it mentioned anywhere i've looked to find out about this disease, i get trouble breathing going upstairs bout 50% time, when i get to hot or cold first thing in morning and last thing at night or if i talking too much, and walking especially up hills or too farregards nextasy
I was just recently started on Advair 250/50 and I have albuterol as needed. I was on Flovent but it actually made my asthma worse. So far the advair has worked great!!~Mia~
I have cough variant asthma and I take Symbicort 160/4.5, Protonix, ZyfloCR, Zyrtec, Flonase, and albuterol as needed (both in inhaler and in my nebulizer). I used to be on Advair 500/50 but was switched to Symbicort on the chance that the mist would get to my lungs better than the dry powder.
I also have been on a prednisone taper three times this year following flareups. Two of the flares were due to respiratory infections. One was due to heat exposure that resulted in a trip to the ER. Now that the weather has changed I'm feeling a lot better.
