I am looking for info on using atenolol for the prevention of migraines. I had a consult with a "staff" neurologist to see if he had any ideas on where to go with my migraine situation and he suggested to start atenolol as a preventative in addition to BOTOX. I am getting the BOTOX on July 20th and am supposed to start the atenolol as soon as it's filled at the pharmacy. I have read the standard info on it and it doesn't look like a very good drug for MIGRAINE prevention. I am hoping someone out there has had some experience and will let me know. Migraine with Aura, Familial Hemiplegic Migraine, Degenerative Disc Disease, Hemilaminectomy L4/5, Depression
Current Meds:
Celexa 40mg, Wellbutrin 300mg, Topamax 200mg, Ambien 10mg PRN, Phenergan 25mg PRN
Meds for Migraine episode:
IV Fentanyl 100 - 200mcg, IV Phenergan 25 - 50mg
i had horrible nightmares on propanalol if that is anything like it. awful!!!! i had to stop after 2 weeks once i realized it was the meds. i saw people in my room at night! scared me to death! good luck
Thanks for the response! I was on propanolol too a couple years back and DID NOT do well on it either!!! I really have no idea why they want me to try this -- I think they are grasping at straws at this point!!
