There seem to be quite a few autoimmune diseases. Which do you think are worse than Crohn's? Lupus seems like it can get really bad. Rheumatoid arthritis doesn't seem as bad as Crohn's. Psoriasis doesn't seem as bad either. CD compared to UC though, I think CD is probably worse.

I don't like comparing apples to oranges. In the third stage of RA (rheumatoid arthritis), the inflamed cells release enzymes that digest bone and cartlidge, which causes the joint(s) involved to lose their shape which means even more pain and loss of movement (quite debilitating)...RA can also affect other organs in the body. Lupus can be extreamly debilitating as well and can attack many organs/parts of the body and is also very exhausting as well. Everyones severity with different diseases varies as well, but I think they're all bad and don't like the idea of comparing illnesses...they are all horrible.

omegas 369 caps one cap twice/day
probiotics 10 billion cfu once/day
vitamins C-calcium ascorbate (easy on the gut) and vitamin A each once/day
Prodiem fibre supplement one cap before bed
I've also altered my diet (no junky stuff at all, processed, fast-foods, refined sugars, ect) and exercise regularly.
I went from 30+ bloody BM's/day with lots of lower back pain to an average of 5/day no bleeding no back pain and completely formed stools, still have severe urgency issues.

Gotta agree with PB, they all can be terrible! I think sometimes it just depends on how sever the person has it too, since they really seem to effect everyone differently.

in 1992, in Jan of 1993 I was back in the hospital for surgery for my crohns. I had part of my right colon resectioned with ilecolonstomy.
My GI doctor has me on and Humira. B-12 injection once a month.

I think that UC and CD are not that "big" of a deal and don't get mad I know a lot of people are suffering from that a great deal me too. And I don't mean to disrespect anyone .
But I am more afraid of Lupus or other auto immune disease that affect the big guys like the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys and so on.
I always told my doc don't worry about me I wont be afraid because it does not a fact the big players but I guess I can throw that out the window now since I got AIH

Listen to pb4.....most AI diseases can be incredibly nasty, causing excruciating pain and making you WISH you were dying even if you're not! It truly depends on the individual and how severe the case of whatever-it-is.
I say this because the list of the AI diseases I DON'T have is probably shorter than the list of what I DO have. :(
As to celiac disease and how bad it can be, you clearly don't know much about it. Recent research has shown that celiac disease can actually "open the door" for other autoimmune diseases to develop....please see the following article for details on this:

One form of celiac disease involves a rash from hell called dermatitis herpetiformis (DH for short), which can show up all over your body, itches worse than poison ivy, and leaves purple scars as it heals. It can take MONTHS to heal. The most effective form of medication against DH is a drug that they use on leprosy....the ONLY other use for this drug is against leprosy! It's so dangerous you have to have a blood test every two weeks to make sure you still have red blood cells!
Everyone knows that celiac disease produces antibodies against the villi in the small intestine. But did you know that CD can attack the brain and the bones as well? And that these effects do NOT go away on the gluten free diet?? See the following links for more info:

I suspect that UC can be pretty awful too, but I don't know enough about it to argue with you....I'll have to leave that up to someone else.

I agree you cant even compare one or the other. What might be horrible for me, may not be for you. I am just happy that I am the only one in my family that has Crohns.

Crohn's Disease for over 34 years. Currently on Asacol, Prilosec, Estrace, Prinivil, Diltiazem, Percoset prn for pain, Zofran, Phenergan, Probiotics, Calcium, Vit D, and Xanax prn. Resections in 2002 & 2005. Also diagnosed w/ Fibromyalgia, Osteoarthritis, & Anxiety. Currently my Crohns is in remission, but my joints are going crazy!

I don't really think you can compare any of them. I used to always say I would rather have UC because then smoking would be "good" for me. I think there is much worse out there then Crohns, and some days I wish I had something else instead of it..maybe something that medication could help...because nothing is working for my Crohns.
