I saw your post yesterday and didn't get a chance to say hello. Hope you are feeling okay. I always find it amazing how fast you are sent home after your have a breast removed. Geez louise. I will post more later. Is Steve coming out anytime soon or is he waiting for you to start chemo and them make the trip?

This time was so much easier, for some reason. I came home the same night. I came out of anesthesia quicker and clearer than last time. The surgeon said everything went well and the lymphs were negative. I didn't realize he was going to take more. That's good news.
I don't know about Steve (we call him Howie) coming out. He hasn't said anything. He sent me a nice package of apples, pears, nuts, candy, and tea! Paula didn't know he did it until later! Such a nice brother I have. Actually, my whole family is wonderful - friends, too. So many people - friends, family, and co-workers - have sent me flowers and brought food. I am truly blessed! I sure miss my sister, now that she's back in Ohio!

Hi Kathy and welcome. I was away when you started posting and have not yet caught up on all the posts I missed. It seems there is some connection between you and Annette, but I haven't read the post yet that tells me about it. LOL. Annette has been with us since the beginning. We have a great bunch of ladies here, not a lot in CA but many in OH. I live in TX now but from OH and WV originally. You take care and do not overdo it. That is the biggest worry to me when they send people home so quickly. Most of us don't have sense enough to take it easy at home. Glad to have you with us, but sorry you needed to be. MK, Kathy and I are related through a marriage. Her brother married my sister. And I know him as Steve and she and the rest of their family calls him Howie. Have yet to be told why.
Kathy, Paula mentioned to me about him going out but no time was said. I had told him earlier that he needed to. The one thing that bugged me big time while I was going through my chemo was my family called but only my parents came to see me during that time. It would have been nice to see some of them. My oldest sister Julie was coming out at my one year mark when I was going to have reconstruction but her husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer at that time.
My masectomy was easier then my lumpectomy too. Funny isn't it. Maybe the drugs were better for it.

I went to the surgeon today to have the drainage tube removed and it wasn't that bad. A little better than the first time. He took the bandages off and my husband and I saw it for the first time. It's quite a large incision! He was glad to see it looking so good. Evidently, I had a lot of fluid built up in my breast (apple-sized) from infection! No wonder it was bigger than originally! LOL There is no trace of the original incision from the lumpectomy. I was joking with him before the mast. that I would have the mark of Zorro! Anyway, the good news is he seems to believe, based on the pathology report, that the cancer was all contained in the breast and has not spread. YEAH! He looked back at the original pathology report and confirmed that only 1 lymph node had it, but it was quite large. But, this all sounds like good news to me!!! I will go back next Tuesday to have the staples removed. That's earlier than before. He says I can shower already with no bandages??? It's not even been a week! Oh well, I guess he knows what he's talking about. All that tape and Tegaderm irritates my skin terribly anyway, so I'm happy.
Next step is to get the referral to an oncologist. I will call my regular doctor today or tomorrow.
Annette....the reason we call Steve Howie is because his middle name is Howard and when he was in high school, all his buddies decided to go by nick-names. I think it had to do with the band he was in.

Kathy, glad to hear that you are recovering so quickly. It is amazing what our bodies can endure and bounce back. It is really good news that the lymph nodes are negative. But, then you know that. I hope your recovery continues to be uneventful. Good luck with the next steps. Hugs, Lauri
