Brain eating amoeba

I work at a movie theatre in California. I took a drink from one of the water fountains there and some got into my nose. The water was a cool temperature but I am extremely scared. Theres a canal near the theatre and my anxiety is telling me that where the water comes from even though it's unlikely. Dont know what to do.
Hello and welcome!

I am sorry that you are feeling worried about this concern currently. Your fear is a pretty common one among anxiety sufferers, and comes up in our threads regularly.

I always respond with a similar response along the lines of...

...the organisms you fear can NOT live in treated drinking water, and they are only found in standing water in certain (isolated) environments...and even then the chances of contracting them is so extremely rare...that there is virtually no health risk to you.

However, I know that though your worries are invalid...you fear is NOT...it is very real to you, and I understand how that feels. Therefore, I encourage you to work through some self help to get you through this challenge.

In our Resources at the top of the main forum page here you'll find Therapy Worksheet downloads and a link on using Positive Mantras/Affirmations to combat the fearful thoughts you are having.

Also there you'll find links for Health Anxiety, if this is something that you regularly struggle with.
