Am I the only one who is worried about the future? Every time i watch the news, both local and internationally i get this sickening feeling inside that consumes my mind for the entire week or month. What worries me the most is the violence that exist in schools and colleges, stemming from students being bullied and shunned by peers and fellow colleagues. How can we safe guard our children so they can have a bright and fulfilling future? Why is it that children and adolescents lives is not viewed as precious to protect? I suffer from depression and i have a very paranoid personality as it deals with the people around me and who i should lend a little trust to. I am currently living away from my family to attend college, but i worry so much about my mother and little sister at home! I worry about their safety, and holistic well-being.. I try to tell myself that they are fine and when i talk to them on the phone i get a little relief until i start to over-think things and the worrying cycle begins again. -sigh- I am just so tired (mentally and emotionally). only 2weeks left in this semester then i will be returning home to my mom and little sis
First, turn OFF the news. Second, AVOID the news. There is much going on in this world that is being exploited by the media. I personally avoid ALL of it completely. Otherwise I am a frantic mess.
Try to focus on your studies, and look FORWARD to your semester break with family. I try to put into practice the Serenity Prayer.

In through the nose and out through the mouth with pursed lips. Called "smelling the roses and blowing out the candles", This slows down the anxiety,. And with practice, it works.
Know that the news is sensationalized. It is meant to scare us. Try not to worry. This has been going on for years and years. The media takes and makes everything bigger and badder. Find peace with what you are doing. You are learning. That is awesome... Look forward to seeing your mom and sis too. One day at a time.
Like Dixie said, turn off the news for awhile. It does help not to watch at times.
Thank you guys so much. I think i should do what you said Dixie and avoid the news because its full of too much negativity. I am happy stumbled upon this site :) I am going to try the Serenity prayer, i hope my faith in God is strong enough to help me cope with all the changes i have been going through.
Modern media is interested in viewers staying tuned and readers returning, which consequently results in being the first to report and being the media source with the most compelling storyline. Most media sources will give lip service to 'truth', but the story is always skewed in several ways, according to the news source's perspective and their producers, editors, and money-people. I know this sounds a lot negative, but most media sources use fear as a tool to compel their audience to return.
If it bothers you, stop watching it. The world will not end if you do. It's like the old saying, "When I do that, it hurts. Well, STOP DOING IT."
I am a newshound, so get my news from several sources: Washington Post, BBC, NPR, and PBS NewsHour. I do not usually use any others sources, as I find them too biased to be of help. (Sadly, WaPo is getting unreliable, as are a lot of print-to-online sources.) I like being immersed in the information.Ulcerative Colitis 2003, Fibromyalgia DX 2005, Crohn's 2013, Enteropathic arthritis, 2013. Family History of Fibro--2 out of 3 siblings diagnosed. Started SCD-June 2013. *There are three kinds of people in the world: ones who see the glass as half-full, ones who see the glass as half-empty, and others who see a big crack in the side which is leaking all over their %$#@# foot
Hello again IC...Sorry I failed to say WELCOME=) I'm glad you found this group, too. I only joined this summer, so I'm still trying to get to know folks. I was a news hound back in the day, even contemplated a career in journalism. I worked summers at our local newspaper. I chose Architecture/Design instead. I've questioned that decision throughout my adult life until recent years. Now with print (ink on paper) news rapidly becoming the dinosaur of our day, it's rare to see true journalism.
It is indeed the networks and cable competing with internet/social media...ALL SCREAMING "The sky is falling. The sky is falling". You don't have to participate or "like" it...disconnect and focus on all that is positive in your life. You are blessed.
Thanks Dixie and its no problem. Trying to understand everything in life is impossible, but i still want to grasp as much as i can and share what i've been through with who ever wants to listen. Since my first visit to a psychologist i have been fascinated with the field. I can only hope that i will be able to help a lot of people dealing with internal and external issues in their lives.
I can only put God first and accept that this world is just a temporary place for us to be "human".
Myself- you are right in that fact that the news twist the stories to get viewers, i use BBC as my source as well. Where i'm from there are only 2 sources for news and i feel they give us the information we seek, but they can be too graphic at times. The Prime Minister of my country even admits to not watching the news because she finds it too negative and fake.
anyways thanks again. IC..x______________________________________________________________________________ Bipolar I Disorder
I was so worried about the ebola stuff and wanted to lock everyone I knew in a room so we would all be safe. I talked to a few different people on here and confirmed that it was the hype that scares me. I am worried that more people will die or be sick, but I have decided that unless it is me or someone that I know I have no power. I do feel bad for the people that are sick or hurt or dying, but I can not allow my life or emotions to be consumed by all the hype.STAY STRONG AND I LOVE ALL OF YOU. Oh yeah- avoid the news! I was a news junkie at one time and I'm just too sensitive to watch it anymore. In this case, ignorance is bliss!
Good luck with the rest of your semester and you come here anytime you need support. This is a great community & we all support and encourage eachother through our struggles ♥️
Ignorance surely is bliss Lesweet! haven't even gotten the urge to turn on the tv since...
Planning to surprise my mom and sis by visiting them over the weekend ^_^______________________________________________________________________________ Bipolar I Disorder
