Breast reconstruction after masectomy

Hi,

I'm after mastectomy and I would like to undergo breast reconstruction. I cannot afford it in London and I consider to travel abroad. I totally don't know what to do... Which country should I choose? Are the doctors aborad well-qualified?
Please, help!
Hi Polly & welcome to Healing Well. I am going to assume that you did not live in the US when you had the mastectomy done. Here in the states reconstruction is paid for by insurance at the time of surgery, it's part of the package.

I cannot help you with picking a country to have surgery, sorry. You will definitely need to find a top specialist to do the surgery. You can look on the internet for the best drs & hospitals in various countries for this particular surgery. Here in the US you may want to google John Hopkins University Hospital or the Mayo Clinic's websites. They have great information about the surgery along with excellent surgeon. There are many excellent cancer facilities here that offer all types of care under one roof with various drs.

Regardless of where you have this done, I am assuming you will be paying cash & it's going to be expensive. Having reconstruction surgery is much more expensive than breast augmentation & two completely different types of surgery.

Take care.

I’m just here to offer support. I’m sorry to hear you are having to search for reconstruction help. Does this mean that reconstruction isn’t covered in London at all?

I have no lesions on my soul and so I live with no limits.
Could it be on the NHS? I had a mastectomy but decided not to have reconstruction but it was available to me .
