Hell everyone, I just found this forum today and have been reading alot in here. I have been suffering from migraines right after I had my daughter 3 and half years ago. I soon discovered that they where linked to hormones, but i started on the depo shot and those soon went away...But then i started getting migraines very often and i had no idea what was causing them. I soon discovered that i got addicted to caffiene without realizing it. I drink alot of coffee and not only that, i take ferocet w/codiene VERY often just for tension headaches....I soon realize that I got these migraines when I suddenly stopped taking caffiene. Well I stopped drinking coffee but i still take the ferocet with codiene for my daily tension headaches cause it works great, they also work great for my migraines even very strong medicines like actiq and diladin couldnt stop it. I found that weird for along time but soon discovered it was the caffiene. I was wondering how do I take the ferocet with codeine without getting addicted to the caffiene, cause it only takes a few doses to cause problems. My doctor just prescribed me 60 of these pills with 5 refills cause I told her they work great, but i just discovered this caffiene thing 2 weeks ago. I still need the caffiene for my tension headaches but I the side effects of when I stop taking them. Has anybody else come across this problem before. I'm embarrassed to tell anyone about the caffiene thing cause my family is against caffiene. And I have tried EVERYTHING otc and RX for migrianes and they dont help, everything from triptans to narcotics to old meds (like midrin, dhe45) and preventatives. I dont get why the caffiene is causing me so many problems. Does anyone else have an issue with caffiene like this??

Have you spoken to your Dr about this? If you don't want to mention it to you family atleast mention it to your Dr. Nothing works with me and I am still trying to find something. I to have a 3 1/2 yr old and also a 2 yr old. It is extremely hard to cope with Chronic pain and toddlers. I can't help you with the caffiene prob but just wanted to find out whether your Dr knows about this.

I am new to this forum. I have severe migraines a times. I take Maxalt for it. Sometimes it helps sometime it doesn't. But, to the question of caffine. Caffine is very addicting. You can have severe migraines if you suddenly stop drinking it. It took me a bout 6 weeks to taper myself off of caffine.

Are you getting all of your caffiene from the medicine? Are you also drinking coffee or soda? I'm guessing no because of your comment that your family is against it.
First, I would suggest you let your doctor know, and ask her to prescribe another pain reliever. In the meantime, start reducing your dose on your ferocet w/codiene. Keep in mind that codiene can be addictive, also. Get a pill splitter from the drug store, or get a package of single edge razor blades.
During your first week, cut the pills in half, and then in half again. Take about 3/4 of a pill. I say 'about' because they probably won't split evenly. If you tolerated that OK, try taking only 1/2 pill the next week. If that's not good, go back to 3/4 for a few days, then try 1/2 again. Keep this up until you can get your dose down to 1/4 pill for a couple of weeks. By then, you should be able to substitute your new pain reliever for most of your ferocet doses.
Give it a try. I'll bet you can kick it in a month.

Have you ever heard of rebound headaches????? This sounds like it could be more of a problem that the caffeine itself! You can rebound from lots of medications and fioricet with codeine would be one of those. Rebound headaches are caused from consistently taking medications, once the medication starts wearing off you will have a terrible headache/migraine. You definitely need to talk to your doctor, or better yet see a headache specialist who is familiar with rebound headaches. You would need to reduce your use of medication to no more than 2-3 days per week.
Let me know if you have any questions. Rebound headaches are some of the worst headaches I have experienced in all my years of migraines!

I have been on TOPAMAX for migrane prevention for about 4 months now, I also take Maxalt orally disintegrating tablets when I get the migrane. When I get migranes I get them every day they last all day long and are dibilitating!!!! I was started out on 25mg q day then increased to 50mg q am then 50mg q am and 50mg q hs, now I take 100mg q am and 50mg q hs. The topamax helps and I hardly get a migrane and if I do the Maxalt controls it normaly on the first dose, if not I will take another dose in an hour and that will take care of it normally or in that case I know it is due to stress, which will eventually go away when I take myself out of the situation. I was in LOVE with the TOPAMAX for the first two in a half three months, I wasnt experiencing any S/E's and my migranes were almost completely GONE....but for the last month or so since I have been increasing the dosage the S/E's have come out of the wood works!!! The tingling in my hands, feet, and tounge is constant. My memory is shot! I could be telling my husband that I want to take a shower or that I am hungry and two seconds later i have complety forgotten what I was talking about!!! It is so frustrating! I have a strange depression type feeling that is associated with the TOPAMAX! I have always been a happy upbeat person and since I have been on the medicine I just feel so inadequate in my whole life...my job, everything!!! I am a nurse and I have always been confident talking to patients, their families, and doctors, and now Im so nervous talking to them all!!! It embarassing and extremely frustrating!!!!! I forget things and have to practice what I want to say!! I also have forgotten how to spell most everything! I have to ask someone how to spell to simplest of things!!! (so please frogive any spelling mistakes!!! :) ) I am also so moody now, I have never been this way! One second I am smiling and laughing and the next minute I am crying!!! and the newest of S/E's constant UTI's they want go away I have been taking an OTC medication for it, it only temoprarily relivies the pain!!! The cranberry juice helps but I cant take this anymore, Im going to see my doctor soon. I can take the memory loss but UTI's all the time are tooooooooo much!!!! if anyone else has had this problem and has gotten some relief please HELP ME!!!! I want to stay on the TOPAMAX because my migranes are terrible but UTI's are very uncomfortable and I cant take it they are constant, daily even!!!!!
